Specialist Therapeutic Treatment Radiographer

Duties will include
- To lead a specialist team of radiographers to maximise resources and maintain a high quality service for patients.
- Advising a range of staff groups on radiotherapy techniques and oncological clinical radiotherapy issues.
- Be recognised as a clinical expert in their field of practice.
- Be recognised as a clinical expert in radiotherapy treatment, developing clinical practice, giving expert advice and disseminating knowledge to the radiotherapy team, Oncology Centre, Trust and Nationally. To lead a team of radiotherapists on the treatment units ensuring all treatments are performed according to trust and department policy within the quality environment. Ensure that the equipment and associated support systems are run efficiently.

- To plan and organise daily work and some complex activities or programmes for an area of practice, some of which may be ongoing.
- Adapt practice according to planning and organisational management for better service delivery.
- Ensure policy implementation within the geographical and professional workplace.
- To facilitate attendance at the Disease orientated group meetings
- To inform the Clinical specialist or Services manager of any problems that may affect the smooth running of the Department
- Ensure working practices facilitate an efficient safe working environment
- Implement a service maximising resources within the wider centre objectives
- To provide receive and negotiate complex, sensitive and or contentious information where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
- Where appropriate to ensure the effective communication between different staff members and patients within the working area.
- Where appropriate to co-ordinate communication between various levels of staff within the workplace as well as interdepartmental communication.

We have a team of over 8,000 full and part-time staff. We also provide specialist cancer services to around 2 million people across Kent and East Sussex via the Kent Oncology Centre.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.
Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.
Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children).

- BSc Radiotherapy or equivalent
- Registerable with HCPC.
- Operator, and referrer under IRMER
- Evidence of working at Masters Level

- Undertaken accredited academic development
Experience/Knowledge

- To have worked in a clinical environment.
- Have worked within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience as clinical radiotherapist
- Previous supervisory experience
- Experience on computerised treatment associated equipment
- Experience within both pre-treatment and treatment areas

- Evidence of image assessment
Skills

- Good communication skills verbal and written
- Working knowledge of the pre-treatment process
- Ability to undertake roles within ‘the extended role ‘ of the radiographer
- Able to operate as an autonomous practitioner
- Proven evidence of ability to undertake proactive image assessment and evaluation.
