Are you a Registered Staff Nurse looking for a new challenge and looking to progress within your nursing career? Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust currently have openings for Staff Nurses to join our Surgical Division.

We currently have vacancies in:

Kent & Medway Orthopaedic Centre Inpatient Ward and Ward 30 - Trauma and Orthopaedic

Ward 32 and Ward 11 - General Surgery

Urology Investigation Unit -  Urology

Ophthalmology Outpatients - Ophthalmology

We our looking for enthusiastic, well-motivated individuals to join our highly skilled multi-disciplinary team and make a difference in patient care. You must be flexible, approachable, compassionate, hardworking and be able to use your own initiative whilst also having the ability to work under pressure.

There are full-time and part-time positions available across the division. This role will involve developing further skills and knowledge in relation to patient care, as well as, managerial/team leadership duties.

Head and Neck:

MTW’s Department of Ophthalmology is the largest specialised eye unit in the south east of England, serving a total population of 1 million.

Surgical Specialities:

Surgical Specialities consists of a 19 bedded ward caring for surgical and urology patients, the Urology Investigation Unit and the Maidstone Short Stay Surgery Unit.

Trauma and Orthopaedics:

Our Trauma and Orthopaedic team help care for patients with disorders of the bones, muscles or joints. The department offers a full range of planned (elective) surgery and emergency (trauma) surgery for patients who may need urgent treatment as a result of an accident. This includes routine procedures such as arthroscopies (a procedure to investigate joint) problems) and more specialist surgery such as treatment for pelvic fractures. We have T&O wards at both Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells.

The trust has recently opened the Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre, which is a multimillion-pound theatre complex at Maidstone Hospital. It has three operating theatres and 24 dedicated surgical beds for patients having planned orthopaedic surgery for arthritic conditions and soft tissue injuries affecting the bones and joints. 

General Surgery:

The general surgery directorate consists of 2 acute surgical wards, the Surgical Assessment Unit, the Private Patient Unit and our endoscopy departments.

Fordcombe Hospital is near Tunbridge Wells and became part of the Trust in October 2024. It focusses on planned care and has two operating theatres, 28 inpatient and day care beds, diagnostic services including X-ray, MRI, CT and endoscopy, and a number of consultation and treatment rooms.

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics.  The programme is full-time (please email [email protected] if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

  • Understanding of equality and diversity and how to apply it to self.
  • Understanding of NMC Code and requirements of it for own practice and behaviour.
