Theatre Support Worker

Have you considered working in the Theatres at Maidstone Hospital? We seek a dynamic, innovative, and highly motivated individual to work as a theatre support worker within our elective Theatre Department! Are you looking to join a team striving to make positive changes? Are you enthusiastic and organised, dedicated to quality care and a positive patient experience? 

You will receive structured training to work in this specialist area as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide a consistent and high standard of patient-centred care. You must possess good communication skills and be self-motivated. You will be required to take part in on-calls and late shifts.

We pride ourselves in delivering safe, high-quality care to ensure the patient’s positive experience. You will work closely with our trained nurses and allied health professionals(ODP) to provide this.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

We comprise ten theatres covering various specialities:  Gynae-oncology, Gynaecology, Upper GI, Urology, Breast, Chronic Pain, Brachy Theatres, Ophthalmic and Day case ENT. You will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, working together to provide a consistent and high standard of patient care.

 The primary duties and responsibilities include,

  • Your role is to help safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of staff, patients, and visitors and to protect the patient's Privacy and dignity. You will take on this responsibility with utmost commitment.
  • Be aware of legislation and policies governing theatre practice, particularly in terms of universal precautions
  • Prepare theatres for surgery, including setting up equipment, ensuring the cleanliness and sterility of the environment, and assisting with patient preparation.
  • Cleaning of theatre and recovery areas before and after operating sessions, also adhering to the weekly cleaning schedule
  • Restocking of cupboards and stock containers against agreed stock levels.
  • Collect and escort the patient and assist with transferring the patient from the trolley to the table under the supervision of trained staff.
  • Assist with the safe positioning of the patient on the operating table.
  • Act as a circulating person for the scrub team and within the scope of the role, which involves managing the overall flow of the operating room, assisting with equipment and supply needs, and ensuring the safety and comfort of the patient

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed, Recruitment will contact you to arrange your start date, which will be in line with one of our Corporate deductions.

Following your Corporate Induction, you will be expected to attend the Trust's Clinical Induction Programme for Clinical Support Workers (which starts on the first day of employment). The programme is full-time (please contact the CSW Induction Programme Lead if this is going to be problematic: [email protected]), lasts for two weeks and will involve travelling to both Trust sites. The programme includes 2 supernumerary shifts in the clinical area (an early and a late shift); all other days are classroom-based and run from 9 am to 5 pm.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)
