An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated, confident and organised individual with lots of energy who relishes a challenge, to join the UGI team in the role of Cancer Support Worker (CSW).

The  UGI team cancer support worker will be based within the UGI nursing team establishment.

This role will provide support to the team of nurses and also to the patients accessing this service.

Main duties of the job

We have a full time position opportunity  to join our UGI team at MTW.

Ideally, we would welcome applications from individuals who have previous experience with supporting patients or healthcare backgrounds but know the right person for the best team fit is equally as important.

The  role will entail providing direct information and support via email or telephone, and/or signposting to appropriate services for patients and their families/carers. It will also entail organising and assisting the nursing team to provide services effectively and efficiently ensuring patients queries and care can be actioned within a timely manner. The successful applicant will be processing queries and referrals, guiding and signposting clinical queries and patient queries. As a cancer support worker there will eb the expectation to work with the team in completing holistic needs assessment for this cohort of patients during there cancer pathway

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics (grade A-C) or equivalent.
  • Evidence of continued role development.
  • NVQ Level 4 or additional training to diploma level or equivalent on health-related subject.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continued role development.
  • Willingness to undertake learning and development

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of organisational policies and procedures Relevant health and social care experience at AfC Band 3 or equivalent
  • Understanding of person centred care
  • Understanding of health and social care environment, including terminology
  • Understanding of administrative procedures and systems, including non-routine / service specific.
  • Experience of multi-professional working
  • Experience in use of data and database management
  • Experience of good communication skills
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support
  • Awareness of improving outcomes – A strategy for Cancer and other national cancer policy
  • Knowledge of relevant cancer treatments, and terminology
  • Experience in co-ordinating a patient workload
  • Experience of coaching / teaching patients and carers

Skills
