Complex Polyp Advanced Fellow

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We're looking for a  hybrid position for Gastroenterologist and Complex Polyp Advanced Fellow.

You will be joining a dynamic and innovative team of experts in therapeutic endoscopy, gaining hands-on experience of advanced endoscopic technics under the supervision of the leaders in Endosurgery, whilst also supporting the day to day running of a busy and expanding gastroenterology department.

Main duties of the job

The primary duties of the post are to attend 4 endoscopy sessions per week with advanced endoscopy therapy (e.g. Piecemeal EMR, ESD and combined endoscopy -laparoscopic therapy) that will be undertaken at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother hospital (QEQM). Depending on the experience of the candidate, there will be hands-on experience under the supervision of experts in therapeutic endoscopy. There are also strong links to academic medicine within the department and the post holder will have the opportunity to actively participate in a clinical and preclinical research setting. The Advanced Fellow will therefore be committed to initiate, supervise, and conduct a program of audits, prospective data collection and analysis leading to scientific papers. Active participation in Complex Polyp MDM will provide regular exposure to complex polyp cases including the pre-assessment and follow-up surveillance. As well as taking an active role in all activities within the department, the successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong commitment to teaching, including the teaching/training of junior registrars/fellows and nursing staff in endoscopy related activities.

Working for our organisation

The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate is a vibrant district general hospital and specialist centre for gynaecological cancer, providing emergency and elective services and comprehensive trauma, orthopaedic, obstetrics, general surgery and paediatric services within a coastal and rural geography. It has modern operating theatres and an ITU, a Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, a Renal satellite service and Cancer Unit, and co-located adult and elderly mental health facilities. It has a well-equipped postgraduate teaching centre and staff accommodation, and will host the Clinical Trials Unit for Kent, currently under development. The site has attracted national investment, with funding to expand its busy emergency floor.

Margate and its surrounding coastal towns and villages provide beautiful beaches, charming places of historic interest and stunning countryside. With excellent schools, a wealth of leisure facilities and easy family days out on your doorstep, alongside beautiful and affordable housing stock, the perfect work-life balance couldn’t be easier to achieve.
