Job overview
We currently have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and compassionate nurse to join our growing team. You will be required to assess surgical patients along with the surgical team and assist with their urgent care needs. These range from administering various medications, caring for patients pre-operatively, arranging various investigations. You will be expected to care for a variety of patients that have been referred into the unit from various locations not necessarily within the hospital, including GP surgery's, various clinics, accident and emergency ect. You will need to be able to work collaboratively as part of a large multi-disciplinary team in order to provide the best care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
You will also be required to show leadership skills within the unit and support your colleagues effectively. You will also be required to support your unit manager and manage the unit effectively in there absence.
To provide clinical and professional skills within the SEAU and work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team. You will care for a variety of surgical, gastro and orthopedic patients within the day and will be expected to be able to carry out nurse led assessments of your patients and recognise a deteriorating patient. The acuity of the unit can change hourly so it is important you are able to prioritise your work load effectively in order to keep yourselves and the patients safe.
You will also be required to assist your patients getting ready for theatre if they are required to have surgery and be able to care for them prior to their operation. You will be required to facilitate safe discharges if required and plan appropriate admissions to hospital.
You will need to have effective leadership skills to run the unit and in the absence of your unit manager you should be able to run the unit and manage any unforeseen incidents that may occur. You will be required to attend extra study sessions enhance your role.

- Minimum 2 years post registration experience
- NMC registration

- Previous expereince within General Surgery, Orthopedic or Gastroenterology
Skills

- Demonstrate leadership skills

- Atteneded any leadership and or management courses
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge around General surgical, orthoedic and/or gastroenterology
