Advanced Pharmacist for Critical Care and General Surgery

Band 8a

Job overview

This is based at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.  This will be a great opportunity for an experienced Pharmacist to develop the Clinical Pharmacy service, working closely with very enthusiastic speciality teams.  This is also an opportunity to put your prescribing into practice working with pre-admission patients.

Critical care experience would be desirable but training can be provided in this speciality and you would be supported by other Advanced Pharmacists working in critical care.

Being an NMP would be essential and if needed, enrolment on the course will be fully supported by the department.

On a daily basis you will oversee a team of rotational pharmacists and clinical technicians supporting the Critical Care and Surgery. The role will work closely with the Lead Surgical Services Pharmacist, other surgical leads and the critical care team.

We will consider candidates able work at a band 7 to 8a progression

Main duties of the job

  • To operate as an Advanced Clinical Pharmacist in Surgery across the Trust
  • To be the speciality pharmacist for Critical Care, General Surgery and Hospital at Home supporting safe and effective use of medicines within these specialities to improve medicines safety
  • To operationally oversee on a day to day basis the performance of the surgical team working within these specialities.
  • To effectively manage and supervise pharmacists working within the surgical team and oversee the supervision of other pharmacy staff working on the surgical wards.
  • To deputise for the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery at Pharmacy and Care Group level when required
