Band 5/6 Full time (37.5hrs) Radiographer

 As part of an expansion to our Radiology Services we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to come and join our dynamic Radiology Team at QMH. We are looking for a full time band 5/6 senior radiographer, and also students who are graduating this year to apply.

Dartford and Gravesham  Trust  has Radiology Departments at Sidcup  and Darent Valley, servicing the local Bexley population and Dartford community of  over 500,000, along with satellite radiology sites Erith and Gravesend. 

Main duties of the job

The Queen Mary’s Hospital site at Sidcup is undergoing a massive regeneration in services around the site with facilities such as the GSTT cancer unit being based here, along with a radical transformation and updating of the existing hospital infrastructure in radiology. As part of the regeneration, QMH  have a brand new CT scanner installed for April 2021, with an extended service being provided. A 2nd new  CT scanner has also been added , and installed March 2022. There is also inhouse  pathways for staff to progress through plain film reporting, sonographer, CT and mammography training  , 

The successful candidates will be based at Queen Mary’s Sidcup and Erith Radiology departments working in normal hours, along with out of hours as part of the on call team. There is an opportunity to rotate through the Radiology Department at Darent Valley Hospital. Please note that Banding will be dependent on candidates experience and qualifications. For newly qualified B5 radiographer, they will be expected to achieve predetermined standards and will become eligible for band 6 status after a period of between 12 months and 24 months depending on progress.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

With a view to seven day working and enhancing our Radiology Service - flexible hours are expected as part-time or full time, working weekends and evenings as part of core hours.

We currently have over 70 Radiographers working in our Trust and we have an extensive range of modalities including DR, CT, MRI, ultrasound, breast imaging, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry, Lithotripsy, interventional and cardiac angiography and all aspects of general and fluoroscopic radiography. Radiographer role extension/CPD is actively encouraged and supported in Radiology. Examples being: Appendicular and Axial, CT Head, MRI and lower and upper GI reporting. We currently have one Consultant Radiographer in Breast Imaging and we are working towards creating a Consultant Radiographer Lead in Image Interpretation.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc in Radiography
  • State Registered Radiographer
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate of competency in IV cannulation, along with the ability to practise these skills.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able work safely and effectively without direct supervision but with Senior Staff guidance where necessary
  • Good communication skills with patients, colleagues and other Trust workers
  • In depth knowledge of all routine radiographic procedures
  • A working knowledge of the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017
  • Knowledge of the College of Radiographers statements for Professional Conduct
  • Knowledge of the Health Professions Council Standards of Proficiency
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to work safely, avoiding the hazards that may be encountered in Radiology

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Newly or recently qualified for progression to senior level once competencies have been achieved
  • Ability to work in all areas of Radiology
  • Provide training/mentoring for students
