Band 5 Swale Special Needs Nurse
Division: Women, Children and Young People
Care Group: Children and Young People
Band: 5
Salary: £29,970 - £36,483 per annum/pro rata
Overseeing and delivering care to children and young people in specialist pre-school and school provisions. Training staff in school to meet the healthcare needs of children and young people.
Participating in the assessment, planning, implantation and evaluation of the child/young persons care. Delivering therapeutic interventions to pre-school children who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities and additional health care needs.
Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd
Provision of evidence based clinical training to school staff including a rolling programme of core training and additional bespoke training to meet the individual health care needs of children attending Meadowfields school. Training topics include enteral feeding, airway suction, oxygen delivery, anaphylaxis awareness, epilepsy awareness, emergency medication administration such as buccal midazolam and rectal paraldehyde.
Triage children and young people that have been referred to the nursing team by school staff to see if they meet eligibility for the nursing team caseload and assess the level of need and identify any clinical training that is required.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl
To assist and support the Band 6 and Lead Nurse in the establishment of an efficient working environment, making the most effective and efficient use of staff, supplies and services.
In co-ordinating the day to day management of the clinical areas, delegates duties and care appropriately, whilst maintaining overall responsibility.
Ensures that staffing and skill mix is maintained at all times, to a level that does not compromise patient safety, including appropriate request, deployment and supervision of temporary staff/student and volunteers.
To deputise for the Band 6 in their absence.
To attend and participate in meetings for children and young people on the caseload.
To supervise the assessments and interventions of junior staff in relation to patient care.
Completes documentation fully, ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that information systems are maintained by all members of the team.
Escalate any concerns to line management regarding any grievance, disciplinary, performance or sickness issues as appropriate and in accordance with Trust procedures.
Participate in the auditing of nursing documentation and practice following Trust guidance.
To take an active role in risk assessment supporting and implementing strategies to minimise risk.

Qualifications
Meini prawf hanfodol
- Registered Nurse on the NMC Register. RSCN or Children Branch OR Learning Disabilities
Meini prawf dymunol
- Post graduate study in relevant to job description
- ENB 998 or equivalent teaching and assessing course.
Knowledge

- Knowledge of safeguarding children practices including Child Protection.
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues and evidence based practice
- Awareness of clinical governance/risk management

- An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice
- An understanding of resource management.
Experience
Meini prawf hanfodol
- Multi-agency work experience.
- Relevant post registration experience as registered nurse including acute experience
- Experience or working with children with complex health care needs.

- Community nursing experience.
- Experience of working in a special school or pre-school setting.
- Experience of working with Children and Young People with Learning Disabilities
Skills

- Strong clinical skills including gastrostomy, epilepsy, asthma, anaphylaxis.
- Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive and challenging situations
- Ability to lead and be part of a team.

- Experience of clinical procedures in a community setting.
- Experience of child protection procedures.
- Demonstrate ability to influence and negotiate with others
