Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and credible Senior Nurse to join the Ophthalmology team at East Kent Hospitals. We are looking for a forward-thinking individual who wishes to implement and grow their clinical and leadership skills within this speciality and have the opportunity to develop themselves in line with their personal development plan.
A key expectation of the role is for the nurse to work competently at an enhanced practice level providing care aligned to the four pillars of practice. It is envisaged that 60% of this role will be spent in the clinical area, as part of an agreed job plan and 40% in management administration.
Main duties of the job
· Leading nursing practice within the service.
· Securing and assuring the highest standards of clinical care with the support of the Matron and Head of Nursing.
· The effective management of clinical and non-clinical risk reporting to the Manager within the Care Group Clinical Governance Framework.
· Accountable for outpatient Urgent eye and routine clinics.
The post holder will have responsibility to monitor the coordination of all patient activities and support the development of the Ophthalmology service.
Manage and supervise junior, trained and untrained staff and maintain the clinical environments.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Current NMC/HCPC registration. Health related degree relevant to professional registration and area of clinical practice or holds L6 post registration modules with plan to complete degree programme.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and/or recognised course/ qualification within Ophthalmology specialty
- Formal teaching or preceptorship, mentoring qualification including ENB 998/997, or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- NHS Leadership Academy qualification e.g. ‘Edward Jenner’, ‘Mary Seacole’KHUFT Leadership Course. E
- EKHUFT Leadership Course.
Clinical Skills & Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post graduate healthcare experience, across a range of clinical specialties.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering high quality clinical care using enhanced skills within Ophthalmology specialty aligned to the four pillars of practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- IT skills relevant to digital healthcare and role
Desirable criteria
- Teaching and facilitation skills

- Awareness of professional issues and current Healthcare relating to Quality Governance, NICE and CQC, GIRFT
