An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team and work with and support the Medical Secretaries within the Urology Department  at Burnley General Hospital.  The successful candidate will be joining  our team of friendly Medical Secretaries who   provide a secretarial and administrative service for  all clinicians and nursing  specialist  within the Directorate

We require a person who has a flexible approach to work and is committed to providing Safe, Personal  and Effective care . 
 

You will be required to have good organisational and communication skills. Proficiency in keyboard /computer skills is essential for this role. Previous experience working with  the electronic  Winscribe system/Cerner   would be advantageous but not essential as full training would be provided.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide an efficient and full typing, clerical and administrative support to the medical secretaries. A large part of this workload is predominantly digital audio transcription of clinic letter and other correspondence.

The role requires previous administrative & clerical experience along with  word processing, keyboard and audio typing skills . A knowledge of medical terminology and the electronic Winscribe digital dictation system and Cerner would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English at level 4 or above or equivalent
  • RSA/OCR II Typewriting or
  • RSA/OCR Word Processing
  • RAS/OCR Audio Typewriting
  • Or proven ability of an equivalent level of skill
  • ECDL or Equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • RSA/OCR Medical Audio-Typewriting

Job Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous administration / clerical experience
  • Audio Typing experience
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of the Winscribe Digital Dictation system
  • Previous experience working in an NHS environment
  • Experience using the Patient Administration System
