Job overview

We are in need of a caring,  positive thinking  band 3 health care assistant here on the chemotherapy unit.  We treat approximately 50-60 patients per day.

The band 3 Health Care Assistant role is crucial to support the nursing team and assist with the provision of the highest possible standard of patient care.

We provide a high standard of care and attention for our patients and their families here on the chemotherapy unit, so being attentive and a good listener are essential. 

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this role are to support patients who are receiving treatment on the unit by meeting both their physical and emotional needs.  They also ensure the smooth flow of patients through the unit by performing cannulation and venepuncture, line care and transferring treatments from pharmacy to the ward  in a timely manner.  The Health Care Assistants also ensure that the environment is safe, tidy and well stocked and organized.

This successful individual needs to be outgoing , able to demonstrate care and compassion and work effectively as part of the team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The main duties of this role are to support patients who are receiving treatment on the unit by meeting both their physical and emotional needs.  They also ensure the smooth flow of patients through the unit by performing cannulation and venepuncture, line care and transferring treatments from pharmacy to the ward  in a timely manner.  The Health Care Assistants also ensure that the environment is safe, tidy and well stocked and organized.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for conducting audits on the unit. They will assist in the insertion of PICC lines and generally support the trained nurses on the unit, providing the care to our patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care / Health and Social Care.
  • Venepuncture and cannulation training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as Band 2 HCA normally for a minimum of 12 months

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to perform basic nursing care
