Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust seeks to appoint a Specialty Doctor in  Gastroenterology to work within our Adult Medicine department. 

The post holder will be based at Tameside General Hospital. The post is based within the Gastroenterology Department and the main activity undertaken will include outpatient clinics, diagnostic tests and ward rounds and on calls for general internal medicine.  

 

Main duties of the job

To participate in various outpatient activities including the medical management of patients attending outpatient clinics and participation in Endoscopy sessions.

Ensuring the effective organisation of the ward including diagnosis and treatment of all patients admitted.

The appropriate discharge of patients, including providing timely paperwork to the General Practitioner ensuring a continuation of care following discharge.

The direct clinical supervision and training of the Ward Junior Medical Staff as well as the organisation and delegation of clinical work.

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent o Specialty trainee competencies to the level of an CT2/ ST3 Acute Medicine (or equivalent)
  • GMC registration and license to practice
  • IT Skills
  • Effective decision making.
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and judgment.
  • Experience in audit.
  • Experience of teaching/educational supervision.
  • Able to communicate and liaise effectively with patients, relatives and with colleagues in all disciplines
  • Written communication in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work as a team player in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience of supervision of junior staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous significant experience in Gastroenterology
  • MRCP (Part 2)
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
  • Evidence of attendance to ‘Teaching for Teachers’ or similar course.
