An opportunity has arisen for a motivated individual to join the Emergency Department team and help make a positive difference. House keeping in ED is an important role in supporting the team in providing a high quality service to our patients.

Previous house keeping experience is an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided. 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for assisting the team in providing departmental services in close liaison with other services within the trust.

  • General cleanliness and tidiness of the department
  • On-going monitoring and ordering of stock 
  • Reporting faults and  broken equipment 
  • Supporting safety by maintaining confidentiality and security
  • Assist with meal time

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

         Acting as a witness when receiving patients’ property.

  

         Ensuring that property left on the unit by patients/relatives is managed appropriately as per Trust Policy.

 

         Monitor and identify shortages in linen stock on ward.

 

         Ensuring environment affords privacy and dignity to service users at all times.

 

         Tidy and clear linen as necessary.

 

         Liaison with Trust estates team to ensure safe environment for staff and patients

 

         Ensuring that each patient has the correct choice of meal they are required.  Liaising closely with the catering department to ensure adequate provision of meals

 

         Helping in the preparation of breakfast and the distribution of all meals to patients.

 

 

         Observing and assisting patients with feeding at mealtimes under instruction from a qualified nurse.

 

         Helping in the preparation and distribution of beverages to patients.

 

         Collection of used cutlery/dishes after meals.

 

         Ensuring that kitchen area is clean and tidy at all times.

 

         Washing crockery as necessary.

 

         Maintaining stock rotation taking into account expiry dates.

 

         Being open, friendly, warm and honest toward others.

 

         Acting in a polite, courteous and professional manner toward patients/relatives/visitors to ward.
