We are looking to a recruit an MDT Co-ordinator to join our team of experienced staff. This team help the Trust manage patients with suspected cancer through the hospital systems to ensure timely review, diagnosis and treatment.
The Cancer Services Team are a Close knit team who communicate and develop close working relationships with all members of the MDT, including Consultant General Surgeons and Physicians, Consultant Histopathologists, Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Oncologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and other appropriate staff, to ensure timely and accurate transfer of information, for the benefit of patient care. Main duties of the job
You will be able to provide consistent patient-centred focus throughout the pathway of care, by providing one point of contact along the administration pathway for the Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs). This will ensure coordination of the patient journey, especially for patients that need to move between cancer units and cancer centres. The MDT Coordinator will be responsible for tracking the patient along their care pathway with the team and identifying potential breaches of the cancer waiting times and targets.
The role will ensure that all relevant patients are discussed at MDT meetings with supporting clinical information. Also, accurate prescriptive data collection and recording to enable effective patient tracking of all suspected and positively diagnosed cancer patients.
The post holder will be responsible for the coordination and organisation of the multi-disciplinary team meetings, and will attend these meetings obtaining and recording relevant information. He/she will collect record and report cancer information as required in order to meet both national and local requirements.
The post holder will be responsible for the coordination of reports, investigations, radiology results and clinic appointments. He/she will be required to work closely and proactively with the clinical teams and work collaboratively within the cancer services team ensuring the consistent delivery of service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- To track patients to ensure their pathway through the system is smooth and efficient and achieves appropriate targets. This will include liaising with various departments to facilitate the timely booking of diagnostic tests and treatments.
- To be responsible for the efficient collection of Cancer Waiting Times and minimum datasets, and entry of this information onto the relevant databases whilst adhering to mandatory deadlines for data submission.
- To ensure that potential breaches are identified and brought to the attention of the relevant departments and managers. To notify the Cancer Services Management team when a potential breach of the cancer targets is likely to occur.
- To work with the Cancer Services Management team to eliminate any potential risks to patient pathways.
- To contribute to the analysis of breaches and the redesign of cancer pathways as necessary
- To support the flow of information to and from primary and tertiary care through acknowledging receipt of referrals and responding to queries regarding the patient pathway.
- To provide administrative facilitation to the MDT meetings, including preparing, organising and circulating lists of patients for discussion, and ensuring MDTs run as smoothly as possible to reach their full potential in discussing all cancer patients. This includes the use of video conferencing and IT equipment as necessary; the location and retrieval of casenotes; and ensuring facilities and/or refreshments are booked.
- To attend weekly MDT meetings and input live information on to the relevant database of the outcome of each discussion and any actions to be taken. To use this information for minimum data set collection and CWTs.
- To record attendance at, and apologies for, MDT meetings accurately to ensure compliance with Cancer Services standards. To record cancellation reason in the event of a MDT meeting being cancelled.
- To work flexibly as part of a team, covering MDTs for annual leave and sickness if this should be necessary.
- To assist the MDTs in the peer review process where appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- To have experience and sufficient knowledge in the use of a range of computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of issues and developments both nationally and locally by reading information provided by the Cancer Management Team.
- To participate in the orientation and induction of new staff.
- To take responsibility for pursuing his/her own development in accordance with an agreed Personal Development Plan.
- To attend all Cancer Services mandatory training sessions required for the post and all Trust mandatory training sessions as required.
- Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES
- Responsibility for ensuring all data items are entered into the Somerset Cancer Database to enable effective MDT support and data collection for the National Clinical Audit Support Programme Databases.
- Ensure all data/information is stored and transmitted in a format, which adheres to all aspects of the Caldicott guidelines.
COMMUNICATION
- Communicate and develop close working relationships with all members of the MDT, including Consultant General Surgeons and Physicians, Consultant Histopathologists, Consultant Radiologists, Consultant Oncologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists and other appropriate staff, to ensure timely and accurate transfer of information, for the benefit of patient care
- To liaise with internal departments and external departments at other hospitals as required.
- To participate in departmental meetings.
- To provide cover for other MDT meetings at all sites across the Trust as required.

Essential criteria
- GCSE - O Level Grade A-C or equivalent in Maths and English
- ECDL or equivalent demonstrable skills
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
