An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cancer Services Team at Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust as Lead Cancer Manager. We are currently seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to lead the Cancer Services Team. 

The post will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of both performance and operational issues. The successful applicant will have experience of working with multi-disciplinary healthcare teams, as well as system partners.  excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to meet targets and deadlines, a strong aptitude for change and high level resilience.

You will need excellent organisational skills to co-ordinate the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality service for our patients. The successful applicant will manage information in relation to the patient pathways, ensuring cancer targets (both statutory and local) are consistently achieved and maintained; working with the senior management team to support service improvement and development projects both within the Cancer Services department and with the broader speciality operational and clinical teams.

The post holder will need experience of working well with system partners and agencies to ensure that our cancer pathways are delivered in line with best practice. 

A key objective for this post is to ensure the delivery of the very best care and experience to our patients through the effective operational performance management of all Cancer Services.

PROFESSIONAL / CLINICAL

·       Provide professional cancer leadership and guidance for all staff, ensuring appropriate structures are in place to support the cancer pathways. 

·       Provide professional and operational advice and guidance at a senior level to the Directorate management teams, including support and diagnostic services with regards to the cancer agenda.

·       Provide dynamic leadership for change and service improvement within all areas of cancer.

·       Working with the Directorate management teams taking responsibility for the delivery for of all national cancer waiting times standards.

·       Working in partnership with peers and senior operational and clinical managers, provide advice and intervention to specific cancer projects.

·       Lead and implement designated work streams and projects as and when required.

·       Provide effective input into the development of the Trust’s cancer strategy.

·       Support the Lead Cancer Clinician and Lead Cancer Nurse Manager in identifying drivers for change and opportunities for growing, improving, and redesigning cancer services.

·       With the Quality and Governance Team and Divisional Governance Leads, drive the cancer quality and safety agenda.

·       Liaise closely with the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and the Lead GM Cancer Managers to implement the Cancer Reform Strategy, the NHS Cancer Plan and Cancer Survivorship initiatives.

·       Act as a key link to the Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance, Clinical Commissioning Groups, and other significant stakeholders in delivering cancer services. Report back to a number of organisational forums including the Trust’s Cancer Board and to key individuals including the Trust’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Integrated Governance Leads, Lead Cancer Clinician, Lead Cancer Nurse, and Chief Operating Officer.

·       Establish and develop effective multi-disciplinary relationships within the organisation and with outside organisations.  Participate in regional and national meetings as appropriate.

·       Maintain an up-to-date understanding of developments and changes in national policy and guidance that relate to all aspects of cancer pathways and ensure that senior Directorate Managers are kept up-to-date and informed of the likely impact on services.

·       Develop and produce, and support compliance with, policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.

·       Prepare, communicate and present in a variety of formats (written, verbal and formal presentations) highly complex and, at times, sensitive information. This will include to the Trust Cancer Board and Executive Management Teams and include a wide range of cancer issues relating to performance, quality, and patient experience.

·       Act at all times in a professional manner, exhibiting the Trust’s values and behaviours, modelling the way for others and leading by example.

·       Establish links with external agencies to ensure the continued development of new ways of working and collaboration on key tasks within the health economy.

 

MANAGERIAL & LEADERSHIP

·       To provide leadership and line management to the Cancer Services management team including the Cancer Performance Manager, Cancer Support Managers, and Cancer Data Manager. The Cancer Services management team provides line management for the Cancer MDT Coordinator team, Cancer Pathway Navigators, Cancer Care Coordinators, and Cancer Data team.
