We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced NMC Registered Midwife to join our maternity team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in the specialist role of Lead Bereavement Midwife.

We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic registered midwife to join us in this senior role where you will work autonomously within a multi-disciplinary team and with external agencies to provide high-quality, safe and compassionate individualised care - making a real difference to families and services.

This is a fantastic chance for a midwife with experience in bereavement care, or someone with a keen interest and desire for development, to join a well-established maternity unit with an excellent reputation in our community and a strong leadership team focused on supporting staff to fulfil their potential. Main duties of the job

  • Lead on implementation of the North West Stillbirth Guidance and develop and implement processes for the Saving Babies Live Care Bundles.
  • To deliver safe, personal, effective and compassionate care to bereaved parents and parents facing painful decisions during pregnancy.
  • To be a resource within the Trust in developing excellence in bereavement care.
  • To lead, develop and coordinate the bereavement care service in maternity services.
  • To be responsible for the training requirements, create learning environments and participate in research to ensure a quality and patient focused service.
  • Through effective clinical leadership and positive role modelling, inspire, motivate and empower others.
  • To be highly visible in the clinical area and to be accessible to patients, their relatives and staff.
  • To be responsible for monitoring standards within the bereavement service, ensuring Trust policies and procedures are up to date to protect patients' safety.
  • To ensure own personal competence and uphold Trust values and behaviours.

Education, qualifications & training

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Midwife with Band 6 experience
  • Degree in Midwifery or currently working towards
  • Mentorship qualification and sign-off mentor or up to date Practice Supervisor/Assessor
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through CPD and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised leadership course (or willing to undertake)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • In-depth knowledge of the issues surrounding perinatal mortality and bereavement.
  • Excellent communicator with effective written and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to take responsibility for the day to day managements of the bereavement caseload.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of risk management experience.
  • Evidence of teaching.
  • Knowledge of key databases i.e.: MBRRACE, Each Baby Counts, PMRT

Knowledge & skills

Essential criteria
  • Promotes a high standard of individualised women-centred care.
  • Effective organisational skills.
  • Clear understanding of midwifery issues and an up to date knowledge of current NHS developments within maternity services.
  • Supports staff during care of bereaved families.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of data collection and compilation of statistics.
  • Evidence of leadership at clinical level.
  • Experience of audit.
