The Senior SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining our on-premise and cloud based SQL databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database administration, experience with Azure SQL, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed individual to join the Database Administration Team to provide professional expertise ensuring the Trust's Microsoft SQL estate is reliable, resilient and secure.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing professional technical expertise to ensure LSCFT’s Microsoft SQL and Azure SQL database environments are reliable, resilient and secure. Administering, maintaining and supporting both on-prem and cloud based SQL Databases and servers. Monitoring database performance, implementing changes and applying new patches and versions when required. Managing database security, backups and recovery processes. Identifying and resolving performance issues in both on-prem and cloud based databases. Optimising queries, indexes and database configuration for maximum efficiency. Conducting regular performance tuning and capacity planning. Implementing and maintaining database security measures to protect sensitive data. Ensuring compliance with data governance and NHS regulatory requirements. Performing regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. Developing and maintaining automation scripts for database administration tasks. Utilising tools and technologies to automate routine database maintenance and monitoring. Designing and implementing disaster recovery plans. Conducting regular testing of backup and recovery procedures.
The individual will need excellent communication and organisational skills, and have the ability to work on your own initiative. Work closely with development and IT teams to support application development and deployment. Provide technical support and guidance to team members and stakeholder.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to Masters level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
Desirable criteria
- Microsoft SQL and Azure Certification.
- ITIL Qualification.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Automation of routine tasks using T-SQL, Command files, PowerShell.
- Management of SQL Server versions 2012, 2016 and 2019.
- Clear understanding of SQL Server backup methodologies and implementation.
- Ability to define and implement SQL Server security with Windows Active Directory.
- Knowledge of Financial Systems e.g. monitoring budget management, processing invoices and procurement; business planning processes.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to analyse, debug and improve SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.
- The installation and configuration of SQL Server Reporting and Analysis Services.
- Ability to analyse T-SQL code to offer advice for performance and configuration improvements.

- Experience of backing up and restoring databases.
