Job overview
Under the direction and supervision of the site chaplain, you will to assist in providing safe, religious and spiritual services to patients, visitors and staff and to enhance their experience of the hospital.
This post is available across all 3 hospital sites; Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital. Please state your preferred hospital site in your application.
Main duties of the job
Main tasks/overview of responsibilities
1. To assist in and support the work of the Chaplaincy department in seeking to meet the religious and spiritual needs of patients and staff within the hospital
2. To undertake appropriately agreed duties linked to a designated Chaplaincy Volunteer role that supports the work of the Trust in meeting patient needs.
3. To be prepared to undertake supporting duties that enhance and assist the work of the chaplaincy department.
Patient Interaction
1. To visit the patients in a befriending role
2. To inform patients of the services offered by the Pastoral Care Team.
3. With the patients permission, to pass on to the Hospital Chaplain, any queries or worries of a religious matter.
4. With the patients permission, to pass on to the Ward Manager or Nursing Staff any non-religious, ward-based problems and worries.
5. To assist in the collection of patient feedback.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life-threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
