Job overview
The Cellular Pathology Department in East Lancashire provides a fast and efficient diagnostic and consultative service to hospital doctors on both RBTH and BGTH sites and General Practitioners from the designated catchment area. The histology laboratory is modern and well
equipped and centralised at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. The department receives up to 35,509 surgicals and 3,297 non-gynae cytology specimens. ELHT is a major referral centre for HPB, Head & Neck and Urology cancer services and we receive major surgical resections from
these specialities. We also have active screening and symptomatic breast cancer services. Our lab receives colorectal resection specimens including specimens from polyp screening, inflammatory and neoplastic skin biopsies and gynaecological specimens. We have developed a degree of subspecialisation interests and at least up to 4 consultants cross cover each of the cancer teams.
Main duties of the job
This is a fixed term full-time post (10 PA) that the selected candidate will join into the current team of 13 WTE Consultant Histopathologists.

The post is based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.
Main duties of the role will be dissection of surgical histology specimens according to established protocols, supervised by Consultant Pathologist colleagues.
