Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Surgery & Anaesthetics Division as a Service Improvement Manager.  The post holder will undertake a 9 month secondment to support the Division with delivery of key quality improvement projects and attainment of WRP.  The post holder will work closely with the Directorate and Divisional triads to implement and deliver successful projects, from planning stages through to implementation.

The post holder will manage project documentation, monitor and reviews project performance & take remedial action where necessary, and collate and report on project status. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a methodical and structured approach with the relevant project management skills, and the ability to communicate with staff at all levels in the organisation and the public.

Main duties of the job

To provide formal project management leadership to specified projects as required, ensuring set up, governance and delivery is managed as per Trust standards.
b) To analyse and propose re-design of processes to introduce and support improvements and effectiveness for the Division and potentially Trust wide.
c) To develop and implement detailed and robust project plans within the Transformation Team working with key stakeholders.
d) Lead change management work to enable front line teams to understand and diagnose issues to develop effective solutions. Provide continuity in leadership to support management of change working with clinical and non clinical staff.

Work with the Programmes, Divisional Managers, Transformation team, Consultants and Executive Directors on wider aspects e.g. contribution of progress for internal / external publications or forum e.g. Annual Public Meeting, Annual Plan, Integrated Business Plan, Trust Development Authority.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide day to day supervision and direction of the Transformation Team.
f) Develop, refine, maintain and monitor project plans ensuring progress is tracked and reported on.
g) Ensure that project plan activities are completed by the responsible officers by the due dates in plans.
h) To assist in the establishment and coordination of key programme and key activity workstreams with executive directors and relevant managers.
i) To Lead, manage and coordinate workstreams to achieve their objectives which will include;
 Setting up of meetings and management of the necessary documents
 Facilitating workstream meetings
 Undertake research in agreed areas to enable the workstreams and programme board to make informed decisions.
 Advise on any deviations from project plans and recommend corrective actions.

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent qualification
  • Project management of medium to large projects with successful outcomes
  • Excellent IT skills particularly around use of project management applications
  • Ability to cope under pressure and meet challenging deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Prince2 Practitioner
  • Experience of working in projects aligned to CIPs, Clinical Service Transformation, Service Line Reporting and/or Safety
