Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Oral Surgery to join the team of Consultants in the OMFS, Orthodontic and Ear Nose and Throat Departments of East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

We seek an enthusiastic and self motivated person to join our forward thinking team

The role is a new post, and we are seeking to recruit a Consultant Oral Surgeon to join our current team in providing advanced restorative dental treatment to our local population, and support our expanding, successful, and innovative Oral and Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative Dentistry teams.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join an established team and form a partnership approach to the care of Oral Surgery patients alongside the current workforce.  The post is to start immediately for the successful candidate.

The post holder will hold regular independent outpatient clinics and will be responsible for formalising patient care pathways.  

We are a highly motivated and cohesive team dedicated to providing an excellent service for our patients. The programme of support for each individual doctor will be flexible depending on his/her particular needs and experience.

We have a strong emphasis on training and have a strong commitment to support, mentorship and development of all of our staff and have regular multidisciplinary meetings

Working for our organisation

The ELHT OMFS H&N service covers a geographical area known as “The three B’s”, including the towns of Bolton, Burnley, and Blackburn. We offer services to approximately 1 million population. Outpatient clinics and Day Case surgery is carried out at all three hospital sites. All inpatient work, including major H&N surgery is carried out at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital site, with a support from a dedicated surgical ICU. We proud ourselves for continuing an uninterrupted H&N cancer service throughout the covid pandemic and having an established and standardised patient ERAS H&N pathway. The OMFS H&N team works closely with the ENT H&N team in ELHT, with mutual support and operating jointly when required.

The OMFS service is currently delivered by a team of nine OMFS Consultants. 

The team has close links with the University of Central Lancashire and a strong presence in national/international committees, with research publications, invited lectures and participation in clinical trials. The successful applicants will be encouraged to participate in education, research, and innovation and will be supported in developing novel services for patient’s benefits.

  • Full registration with GDC and a license to practice
  • BDS or equivalent
  • Trained Oral Surgeon
  • Contemporaneous ratified Surgical logbook
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate qualifications/Fellowship
  • Demonstrated teaching experience.
  • Evidence of management training or experience
