Job overview

We are looking for highly motivated individuals with excellent interpersonal qualities. There will be 1 post supported from Paediatric Occupational Therapy in the Pennine Network. 
 
The post holder will be based within the Pennine Children’s and Young People’s Occupational Therapy service and will be required to work across a variety of clinical settings in Pennine supporting the Paediatric Teams.
The Paediatric teams consists of Principle Practitioners, Clinical Lead, Occupational Therapy and Support Staff. Most teams work alongside other Therapist and Nursing staff involved in Paediatric care. 
Essential requirements to consider
•    Due to the nature of the role we can only accept applications from those age 18yrs+ 
•    This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Clearance
•    Please be advised that the essential Clinical placements for the Apprenticeship will be in various sites across Lancashire and South Cumbria. You must be prepared to travel to all placement locations as requested. 
•    In order to be enrolled on this course you must provide evidence of Maths and English Qualifications before interview

Main duties of the job

Visa Requirements for enrolment onto the course

If you are a ‘Non-UK National’ applicant you must meet the eligibility criteria and fulfil the settlement requirements of the apprenticeship course funding. Your settlement status will need to be verified as eligible for funding by the relevant apprenticeship provider in order for you to formally enrol on the course.

The training provider will require evidence of:

  1. Remaining length of visa which covers the duration of the course
  2. Minimum 3 years residing in the UK (pre-enrolment onto apprenticeship)

•    The successful candidates will be placed in Occupational Therapy rotation posts and will complete the rotation across services upon completion of their apprenticeship.
•    The post holder is required to work as part of a team and may have supervisory responsibility for assistants and work experience students.
•    This post allows the Apprentice Occupational Therapist to develop their core clinical skills. There are opportunities for service development and involvement in audit and clinical governance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

•    Provide timely and efficient Occupational Therapy interventions to patients according to clinical protocols and service priorities.
•    Ensure patients receive a high standard of clinical care and that you meet the standards expected from the Royal College of Occupational Therapy.
•    Use investigative and analytical skills to undertake a comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment of a patient. 
•    Reflect on complex facts gathered or situations presented and use analysis and judgment skills to consider options for interventions, and outcomes.
•    Formulate individual management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills. 
•    Implement Occupational Therapy interventions in partnership with the service user, with the carer as necessary and in consultation with colleagues.
•    Plan and organise to carry out assessment and interventions in the most appropriate setting.
•    Monitor and evaluate the outcome of interventions in partnership with the service user if possible, with the carer if necessary and in consultation with colleagues.
•    Collaborate with the MDT to develop and improve patient pathways.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE passes in Mathematics, English language or literature at grade C or grade 4 and above OR Level 2 equivalent literacy & numeracy qualifications will be accepted.
  • Evidence of one of the following: • 120 UCAS tariff points. OR • Access to Higher Education in a relevant subject (allied health, professions allied to medicine): at least 40 credits at level 3 distinction level OR • Open University or other accepted distance learning qualification (on discussion with Admissions Tutor) OR • Applicants who do not fit the typical entry requirements will be considered on an individual basis. In this situation evidence of study within the last 3 years to A-Level standard (level 3) alongside a profile of longstanding relevant experience. Applications with a previous degree will be considered on an individual basis

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous or current employment in health/ social care / vocational rehabilitation setting
  • Experience with working within Occupational Therapy Assistant/ Physiotherapy Assistant/ Speech and Language/ Dietetic Assistant or Rehab Assistant or Healthcare Assistant experience

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills including observation, listening and empathy
  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment, including emotional or aggressive patients and carers
  • Skills to empower people to realise and maintain their potential in relation to health and well being

Personal

Essential criteria
  • Shows commitment to undertaking the 36 months Occupational Therapy Apprentice course
  • Has evidenced the ability to meet the essential travel requirements for the role/placements/course
