An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Specialist Nursing team who work within Blenheim Child Development Centre. We are an innovative forward-thinking team who are looking to recruit someone with the same passion, energy and empathy. We are particularly looking for someone who has a special interest in working with children who have additional needs and their families. We work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and are committed to early support/intervention. We have in recent times redesigned the way we deliver our service and have robust pathways including episodes of care/support and development.

Main duties of the job

  1.  supporting  children and families Support all senior staff clinics with  developmental assessments and clinical observations  through play.
  • Lead on ensuring all clinics run efficiently 
  • Support the specialist nurses in joint developmental assessments 
  • Support/advice via programmes of care on sleep toileting and behaviour.
  • Organise contacts for those families needing specialist packages of care. 
  • Understanding and involvement with responsibility to  safeguard children and families   
  • Supporting  nursing team /children's hearing team with supporting hearing assessments

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. Episodes of Care- including direct support to children and families: -
  • Support all senior staff clinics with both formal developmental assessments and clinical observations obtained through play.
  • Lead on ensuring all clinics run efficiently including setting up/clearing away and maintenance of infection control measures/stock control. This will also include the joint assessment clinics and tertiary centre clinics including neurology and genetics
  • Support the specialist nurses in joint developmental assessments as per Blenheim and the Neonatal Enhanced Developmental pathways
  • As directed by the specialist nurses, to provide evidence-based specialist support/advice via programmes of care on sleep toileting and behaviour. Organise own contacts for those families needing specialist packages of care. Using own initiative and experience to modify interventions planned according to client’s needs with oversight from the specialist nurses
  • Support the specialist nurses in providing Triple P Stepping Stones group parenting provisio
  • To contribute to safeguarding plans by reporting observations of family interactions, child development and any areas of concern. The post holder will make every effort to contact the relevant specialist nurse, safeguarding advisor or Team Leader for advice in the event of significant child protection concerns being identified but may be required to refer directly to Children’s Social Care, in the ‘best interests of the child
  • To contribute to the care of all clients, always ensuring safety and dignity
  • To support  trained  nursing staff as  required with children's hearing assessments 
  • To be aware at all times of the needs of client groups and to promote and encourage positive health choices and school readiness. To be actively involved in the communication of complex information regarding clients’ needs and reporting this and any other useful information to the specialist nurses or other members of the team
  • To uphold all aspects of the service and organisational policies and procedures
  • To take individual responsibility to report incidents as well as any identified actual or potential risks either to you, the organisation, or others
  • To maintain contemporaneous and accurate electronic and/or written records
  • Undertake any additional tasks as delegated by the specialist nurses within scope of competencies

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NNEB, NVQ Level 3 in health, social care, childcare or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Foundation Degree in relevant area of study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with children, young people, and families
  • Experience working in or with a child development centre.
  • Knowledge and skills in child development for typically developing children and ability to identify concerns.
  • Demonstrate continuous professional development and remain up to date with current evidence
  • Willingness to train to undertake formal developmental assessments for children who are referred to the Child development Centre. Also, up skill to provide robust clinical observations
Desirable criteria
  • Assessing and supporting families with children who have neurodevelopmental concerns.
  • Experience of working in the community
