Job overview

Fylde Coast Mental Health Support Team (MHST) have an exciting opportunity for a  Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our team as we  expand into Primary School settings. 

The Practitioner will work in both education and healthcare settings to support children and young people with emerging mental health and emotional wellbeing needs delivering evidence based interventions. They will also work closely with education settings to develop their whole school approach. 

The practitioner will  provide supervision and clinical skills sessions to the Education Mental Health Practitioners within the team, They will also participate in the wider Children and Young People's Primary Mental Health Services supervisor of the day rota.

The practitioner will  have completed a relevant course such as the  HEE Postgraduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice or have a core profession such as an RMN. They will be actively registered with the appropriate professional body. They will also have previous consolidated post graduate experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health issues.

In addition, you will have extensive experience of delivering evidenced-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural problems to CYP both individually and in groups.

Main duties of the job

Undertaking appropriate mental health assessments and short-term clinical intervention of children and young people 

Providing a range of appropriate, evidence-based clinical interventions 

Supervising the Education Mental Health Practitioners within the team

Undertaking a 20-day post-graduate programme of study in Supervision at a north west university

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To assist with transforming children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing services, an extension to the Mental Health Support Team (MHST) has been approved, with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people across the Fylde Coast 

The post holder will work under the direction of the MHST Service Lead and Senior Practitioners within the project, across the primary schools, secondary schools, special schools and our Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) within the Fylde Coast.  Joint working with education colleagues, Options4CYP (Children and Young People) and other teams in the wider system will be essential, to support the emotional wellbeing and mental health needs of children and young people.

Some evening and weekend working may be required so you will have a flexible attitude to the role.

As this is a school-based service, the post holder will be expected to take their annual leave predominantly in the school holidays.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RMN/CQSW/DipSW/BSc.OT/BACP Accredited Counsellor/EMHP or other therapeutic qualification and professional registration
  • IAPT Low-Intensity Supervision qualification (or commitment to complete) plus an understanding of IAPT Supervision guidance and how it should be implemented
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in the field of child and adolescent mental health

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years post registration evidence of experience in mental health/therapy.
  • Mental Health Practitioner with a minimum or two years post-qualification experience.
  • High standards of accuracy.
  • Evidence of working with childhood, emotional and psychological development.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Team working.
  • Confident at dealing with people over the telephone, by video and face to face.
  • Ability to understand, absorb and comply with detailed procedures.
  • Experience of working with children and young people.
