Practice Development Nurse

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, with services covering the local authority areas of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre. The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Plus, we provide urgent and emergency care services to an estimated 18 million people who visit the seaside resort each year. We employ over 7000 people from 68 different countries.

Are you looking for a new challenge?  We have an exciting opportunity in our haematology and oncology services for a full time band 7 practice development nurse.

We are looking to recruit a nurse with highly developed interpersonal skills, with good communication skills and have implemented service improvements with cancer services. This role requires an experienced and motivated individual to support the development of the national and local cancer agenda by support the teams to deliver a sustainable model of cancer and SACT related clinical training and education. You will be a registered nurse , SACT trained with a current registration, have significant experience working within cancer care and be enthusiastic and experienced in delivering education and training to others to support support the development of best practice within cancer across the organisation, you will be expected to work closely with other practice development nurses within the Trust .

- Maintain a standardised approach to the  delivery of Clinical Practice trainings.

- Assist on the development and implementation of a rolling PD training plan and timetable for the division.

- To have understanding of the training and development plan for adaptation nurses within the division and the clinical element of the International Nurse Preceptorship.

- PD nurse to provide a standardised approach to clinical practice within their areas of the Tertiary division, Champion the role of the PD nurse, and support colleagues to deliver improvements in practice within ward and unit teams.

- Provide training/guidance/ assessments/ monitoring of staff in their clinical area.

- Have effective communication with the Ward Managers and Matrons.

- Support and develop our staff to provide great care to our patients.

- Collaborate with the divisional Clinical Improvement Leads to identify and implement improvement strategies.

  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of the current issues affecting Cardiac services including Clinical Governance
  • Leadership in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
