Job overview

We require a 6 month  Trust Doctor ST3+ Level Locally Employed in Paediatrics  (possibility of extended period)

The post will have duties/clinical sessions in General Paediatrics and Neonates.  There are a number of joint tertiary clinics.  The post holders will take part in the ST3+ rota as per the job description.  Applicants should have a good experience in General Paediatrics and Neonatology and be aiming for a career in Paediatrics.  The post is Middle Grade Tier

The department is staffed by 14 Consultants (2 Community based) 2 Specialty Doctors, 4 Specialist Registrars ST4-8 (1 in community), 5 ST1-2 Paediatrics / GP trainees and 5 FY 1-2 doctors. We also have 2 Physician’s associates (PA) as part of our team and 2 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners.

Blackpool Teaching Hospital is a busy 849 bedded District General Hospital with an active Post Graduate Centre, a programme of MRCP training, excellent library facilities and medical research and audit is well established. Hence lots of opportunities for training and education.

Main duties of the job

This post will be within the middle grade tier working at ST3+ level.

Duties will be across:

  • Inpatient paediatrics; assessment and management of acute referrals from A&E and primary care. Care of those already inpatient on children’s wards and support and supervision of first on-call trainees.
  • Neonatal Unit; on-going care and management of babies on the NNU, in transitional care and the post-natal wards. Support and supervision for first on trainees in these areas. Attendance at high risk deliveries.
  • Outpatient clinics; attendance in designated clinics predominantly at BVH but on occasions outreach and community clinics. All clinics will be supervised directly by a consultant.
  • Safeguarding; assessment and management of children referred for safeguarding assessment under direct supervision of on-call consultant. Attendance at monthly peer review meetings.
  • Administration; responsibility for e-discharges, Badger summaries, safeguarding reports and outpatient letters.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Shall have completed at least 4 years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 of which will be in a Specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or shall have equivalent experience or competencies.

Research/audit/ publications
