Job overview

The National Artificial Eye Service supplies and fits artificial eyes to NHS patients throughout the whole of England. It also manufactures prosthetic eyes for other associated services.

Main duties of the job

The Ocular Technician’s duties include the hand painting and fabrication of all types of Ocular Prostheses. Accurate colour perception and manual dexterity skills are essential, as is the ability to concentrate on fine detail for extended periods.

Working for our organisation

Candidates will be required to demonstrate artistic ability via a portfolio or similar and will have the accuracy of their colour vision assessed by use of the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test & the Ishihara Test, prior to an interview.

Failure to achieve the required standard in these tests will prevent further progress to the interview stage.

Education & Qualification

Essential criteria
  • 3 GCSE's including Art (or equivalent)
  • Qualification in Fine Art to Degree level or an equivalent

Experience and Knowledge

  • Arts and crafts experience
  • Computer literate
