Am exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to take on a senior role as our Paediatric and Neonatal Lead. The need for a pharmacy service within this area has been clearly identified and the department is primed for an enthusiastic individual to continue to grow and embed the pharmacy service. 

 

Our pharmacy team has a strong commitment to advancing practice and embedding effective medicines management systems into patient care, we are now looking to appoint a dynamic individual with good organisational and communication skills who is keen to develop and establish the clinical service provided to the children's department. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will provide a comprehensive and high-quality clinical service.

 

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence based guidelines and have the support of a large and experienced team to achieve this. The post holder will develop, audit and monitor Medicines Management processes within the service and provide training and supervision to departmental staff. Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork  and previous leadership and management skills would be advantageous.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work at a senior level within the service and play an influential role in the patients care pathway whilst building upon proven clinical skills. The combination of responsibilities will significantly facilitate your growth in both the clinical and leadership aspect of this role.

 

You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence based guidelines. The post holder will develop, audit and monitor Medicines Management processes within the service and provide training and supervision to departmental staff.

In addition to well-developed communication and leadership skills you will have previous experience of working within a clinical environment and will have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy. Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork would be advantageous.

Training and support will be provided. A commitment to continuing professional development is essential. It is envisaged that the candidate will possess a prescribing qualification or be prepared to work towards one.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead and manage the day to day delivery of clinical pharmacy services to the Paediatric and Neonatal units. 

To develop and evaluate clinical pharmacy services to meet the needs of the the speciality within the Families Division.

To provide a framework for the safe, effective and economic use of medicine resources within the specialist clinical area utilising sound medicines management and clinical governance principles.

 To develop and maintain highly specialist knowledge in medicines used in the treatment of children and neonates, and be a resource for the department/Trust within the specialist clinical pharmacy area.

To ensure a consistently high level of pharmaceutical service is provided in line with service objectives.

To monitor, audit and evaluate clinical pharmacy service provision to the specialist area and provide regular feedback.

To contribute to the Antimicrobial stewardship programme at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals under the direction of the Lead Pharmacist Antimicrobials.

To prescribe in line with Trust policies and procedures (Subject to necessary qualification).

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational master’s degree in pharmacy.
  • 12 months pre-registration training and experience.
  • Registered with the GPhC.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy.
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Management/Leadership qualification
  • Membership of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • Prescribing qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous paediatric or neonatal pharmacy experience and expertise.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Good clinical pharmacy knowledge – maintains a broad level of pharmacy practice.
  • Knowledge of neonatal nutrition and the technical aspects of TPN provision
  • Ability to work on own initiative and effectively as part of a team
  • Ability in problem solving.
  • Ability to organise and motivate oneself and others efficiently.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of safe pharmacy practice.
  • Evaluates quality of own work.
  • Ability to think strategically.

Work or other experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience of which 2 years must be within a clinical pharmacy role within a hospital setting at band 7.
  • Previous experience in providing information to support the annual budget setting process and trends within expenditure
  • Previous experience in inputting to training programmes in a clinical setting.
  • Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication.
  • Demonstrable experience of staff supervision/ management including the ability to delegate appropriately.
  • Experience in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Experience in clinical audit
