Clinical Lead Psychologist - One full-time, permanent post.

 We are looking for an enthusiastic clinical psychologist who has a genuine passion for working with people with learning disabilities to join the Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) in Bolton. The position is clinical lead psychologist with leadership and managerial  responsibility for the psychology team. You will lead our supportive psychology team who are passionate about the continued improvement of a therapeutic offer for adults with a learning disability . 

You will provide a direct clinical service to adults with learning disabilities  experiencing psychological difficulties. You will also provide consultancy, training and advice to other clinical staff. You will also be a key contributor to the on-going planning, development and evaluation of the speciality and local learning disability services.  We value clinical supervision and you will have regular access to high quality supervision. You will have responsibility for leading a  dynamic psychology team who currently specialise in ACT, EMDR, and trauma informed care. There is a commitment to regular CPD opportunities including local Special Interest Groups and the service's regular CPD sessions. We also have a commitment to reflective/reflexive practice.

Main duties of the job

This role is an essential part of the Community Learning Disability Team senior management team, with responsibility for leading on, and contributing to, service development initiatives.  Your role will include the assessment, formulation and intervention for adults with learning disabilities and their support system. You will be required to utilise and analyse neuropsychological assessments to inform a person's support. You will be required to offer supervision to clinical and/or counselling psychologists, and to trainee psychologists at an appropriate time. You will also offer advice, consultation and training to the MDT and/or staff teams. You will be required to undertake audits and research, or service development work.

This is an essential car user post, the post holder is required to travel to meetings and appointments in a variety of community settings.

This is an  exciting time for the specialty as there is a newly established psychology team in place, consisting of  two qualified psychologists, one in post and one currently being recruited.  We also have assistant psychology support within the team.  CLDT psychology in Bolton is based within an integrated multi-disciplinary team with a strong, supportive and experienced health contingent.

The service has a commitment to supporting CPD and the psychology service has regularly provided placements for local trainee clinical psychologists.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS
  • HCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience of working with adults with learning disability.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Skills in the application of theory to clinical practice to clients with learning disabilities who have complex needs.
  • Research and evaluation skills
  • Consultation and teaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • General skills in use of IT applications
