Main duties of the job
The post holder will assist in the provision of high standards of patient care within the the Orthopaedic Department - both clinics and plaster room
Must be able to work autonomously and part of a team within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) guidelines of professional conduct.
To provide the population of Bolton and beyond with the highest standards of care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will undertake a range of duties these will include
- Practice within the NMC Competencies for Nurse Associates
- The provision of help and support to the fracture clinic staff and doctors when circumstances allow under the direct supervision of the nurse in charge of clinic and plaster room
- The provision of both written and verbal information to patients, relatives and carers
- To demonstrate good and effective communication skills to provide supportive and persuasive conversations. The post holder will be able to demonstrate the ability to communicate with patients with complex needs who may exhibit a variety of challenging behaviours. For example Children, the elderly, learning disability or mental health patients.
- To help patients have an understanding of their treatment plans
- The post holder will be able to make effective decisions and use their own judgement in arising situations and be able to effectively cope in difficult and stressful situations.
- To provide underpinning knowledge of simple Orthopaedic conditions
- The post holder will be competent in completing and recording clinical observations and demonstrate an understanding of the escalation process for deteriorating patient.
- The post holder will be able to update individual patient records using Electronic Patient Records
- Give advice to patients and carers following application of casts for their injury and advice - following training
- Plan Implement and evaluate care in conjunction with the clinical team and document care
- Provide Basic Wound care

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Nurse Associate or Trainee Nurse Associate
- Registered with NMC
Desirable criteria
- Wound care certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Worked in trauma and Orthopaedics caring for both in patients and out patients
- Experience of basic casting
- Wound care
- Venepuncture Cannulation
Desirable criteria
- ECG taking
- Working in trauma and orthopaedic environment, caring for both inpatients and outpatients
Other
Essential criteria
- Undertake the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) casting certificate
- Compassionate and respectful
- Caring and non-judgemental approach
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated
- Enhanced DBS check (adult and paediatric)
Desirable criteria
- Caring for both adult and paediatric patients
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to work effectively within the team
- Able to use Trust IT systems e.g. EPR
- Work under pressure
- Evidence of ANTT
- Ability to follow departmental and Trust protocols, including escalation policies to mitigate patient clinical risk
- Able to work from own initiative and within boundaries of the role
Desirable criteria
- Computer skills for IT systems
- Caring for patient with plaster casts

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
