Job overview

The District Nursing teams work across East Lancashire to provide patients with long term or complex conditions with care in their own homes.

An exciting opportunity to join the District Nursing Service has arisen, and we are looking for an experienced administrator to join a newly established busy District Nursing Clinical Triage Hub, based at Burnley General Hospital

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, together with the ability to work as part of the team and independently.  The post requires a self-motivating individual with a pro-active approach to administration and an ability to manage professionally patient enquiries.

Candidates must have skill and experience in working with all  Microsoft Office applications and work to a high degree of accuracy.  Knowledge of systems such as EMIS would be an advantage as would previous NHS experience.

 

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the nursing team to managing patient referrals, inputting patient information and allocating clinical schedules onto  the electronic record and appointment scheduling system (EMIS).  Answering the phone to patients, relatives and professionals and handling those enquiries with sensitivity and professionalism.  Managing and prioritising unpredictable and frequently interrupted busy workload. 

The successful candidate will be motivated, enthusiastic, and have the ability to deal with the workload in a  professional manner, maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of duty including patient information and staff personal data.  They will assist in maintaining accurate records and to complete and return as requested statistical data for the team.   We are looking for a good team player who has a keen attention to detail and accuracy in their work.

Flexibility is paramount as you could be asked to cover an alternative shift to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifcations

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in English Language and Maths at grade 4 or above, or equivalent
  • Computer literate, extensive knowledge of Microsoft packages

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of previous experience of dealing with sensitive confidential information
  • Evidence of previous experience of data inputting over an extensive period
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative without close supervision, whilst working as part of an integrated team
Desirable criteria
  • Working in the NHS or other large organisation
