Rakehead Rehabilitation Unit is a specialist Neurrehabilitation facility based at Burnley General Hospital. We have a dedicated Multidisciplinary Team that is motivated and enthusiastic to provide safe effective and personal care for all our patients, their families and carers.

This a busy unit with a professional but friendly team delivering high standards of care. We are looking for highly enthusiastic, motivated and committed housekeeper to join our forward thinking and ever developing team. This will be a 5 day per week service. You should be able to work effectively as part of a team and deal with complex sensitive information in a professional manner.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals with a can do attitude that have the ability to work within our team. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a friendly and emphatic approach to patients and carers and colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Maintain a clean and tidy environment for patients, staff and visitors, including equipment and fixtures on a daily/weekly basis
Be responsible for ordering and maintaining stock levels and equipment
Responsible for reporting of broken/faulty equipment/fixtures and furnishing to the relevant departments, maintaining records for the same, and ensuring prompt actions are taken to maintain the smooth running of the unit
Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others e.g. peers & apprentices.
Ordering a preparation of meals for the patients.
Organisation of the ward, liaising with the portering service for delivery of linen/provisions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Environment
To maintain a clean and tidy environment for patients, staff and visitors. Assist in the needs of patients, visitors and staff and maintain a good working relationship within the team.Complete daily and weekly environmental checklists.
Support the wider team in delivering patient centred care in a comfortable, safe environment
Be responsible for ordering and maintaining stock levels of equipment. To organise and prioritise own workload.
Clinical
Daily damp dusting of the medical equipment within the ward environment such as monitors, infusion pumps etc with the aim of the prevention of infection, ensuring they are completely stocked.
The safe laundering of infected linen and knowledge of infection control policies regarding the same.
Safe lifting moving and storing of medical supplies daily and maintaining a safe environment where the medical equipment is stored.
Management
To be able to organise own day to day activities, using own initiative to prioritise own workload to a high standard.
Responsible for reporting of broken/faulty equipment/fixtures and furnishing to the relevant departments, maintaining records for the same, and ensuring prompt actions are taken to maintain the smooth running of the unit
When ordering medical and surgical supplies to liaise with other outside companies comparing costs to ensure economical use of monies within the budget using verbal and written skills.
As frequent physical effort is required for long periods during a shift, all moving and handling guidelines must be followed and the post holder must attend Trust moving and handling mandatory training.
Communication
Answering the telephone in a courteous manner, taking messages, referring calls to the nursing and medical staff.
Maintaining confidentiality of patient information
Participate in unit meetings and ensure ward manager is made aware of any issues on the unit.
Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others e.g. peers & apprentices.
Attend statutory and mandatory training as required.
Participate in personal development review, personal development plan and maintain personal development portfolio. Achieve agreed learning objectives.
Contribute to the development of the service.
Risk Management
It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all staff of the Trust that they fulfil a proactive role towards management of risk in all their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of incidents, near misses and hazards.
Records management/Data Protection Act
As an employee of the Trust, you have a legal responsibility for all records, including patient health, financial, personal and administrative, that you gather or use as part of your work within the Trust. The records may be paper, electronic, audio, video tapes, x-ray images etc. You must consult your manager if you have any doubt as to the correct management of the records with which you work.
Health and Safety
All employees of the Trust have a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions. Employees are required to co-operate with management to enable the Trust to meet its own legal duties and to report any circumstances that may compromise the health, safety and welfare of those affected by the Trust undertakings.
Confidentiality and Information Security
As a Trust employee you are required to uphold the confidentiality of all records held by the Trust whether patient records or Trust information. This duty lasts indefinitely and will continue if you are no longer employed by the Trust.
All the information which identified individuals in whatever form, paper, picture, electronic data, images or voice, is covered by the Data Protection Act 1988 and and should be managed with accordance to this legislation.
Infection Control
All employees have a personal responsibility for adhering to the control of the infection policy. Further guidance can be sought from your line manager.
Knowledge and Skills Framework/Personal Development Review
This post will be subject to a 6 month probationary period following the outline for the role. Once this has been successfully completed you will be required to undertake an annual personal development review which will give the opportunity to discuss with your manager your progress in relation to your job outline.
Once progression has been agreed you will normally progress to the next incremental point on the pay band 12 months after appointment to this post and to subsequent points every 12 months thereafter, subject to meeting criteria for progression when you pass through the second gateway point.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
