Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2 Theatre Support Worker to join our Surgical Theatre Team at Burnley General Hospital (BGH). 

Main duties of the job

Although predominantly based in BGH, cross site working may be required to fulfil the service needs.

Experience would be an advantage but a period of preceptorship will be offered to new staff to support them in their new role.

The successful candidate will be in good health due to the demands of the unit and heavy work load. Applicants need to be flexible in their approach to work, enthusiastic and demonstrate excellent communication skills. 

The role is based in the recovery and reception areas of the Operating  Theatres and you will be assisting in sending for patients and working with the recovery team and helping transfer patients back to the wards. General housekeeping duties are also part of the role. 

There may be opportunities in the future to work in Theatres to gain experience and knowledge 

Please also note that the role may require the candidate to work late shifts or weekend working as the service requires.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties carried out following assessment of competence will include: - Transportation of patients to and from theatres.

Patient care in both the recovery and reception  areas of theatre

Supporting Nursing and Clinical staff with daily tasks as required 

General Housekeeping

Attainments

Essential criteria
  • Willingness to undertake NVQ training
  • Proven ability to manage priorities under pressure
  • Proven ability to understand and comply with detailed procedures
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 or 3 in care
  • Previous experience in health care setting

  • Clear and accurate written/verbal communication
  • Able to work the hours required by the needs of the service
  • Able to adapt to the changing needs of the service
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team
