Main duties of the job
Provide high level of surgical/ Medical nursing expertise to deliver excellent standards of individualised care.
Establish a safe working environment for patients and staff and ensure that patient dignity is compromised as little as possible.
Assist in the investigation of all incidents, accidents to all patients, visitors or staff and implement the clinical incident reporting process.
Assist in the implementation of procedure for complaints from relatives, patients and staff and inform the line manager of any untoward incidents and participate in the clinical incident reporting process
Delegate responsibilities for the delivery of patient care to all junior members of staff.
To act as team leader, when required, in the absence of senior personnel
Ensure the effective use of all resources by all junior staff and actively contribute to the budgetary control of the department
Ensure that important information relating to the patient’s physical condition or which would affect the nursing care, is related to the appropriate personnel.
Act as Mentor/Assessor and preceptor for all learners and support ward staff in their role as assessor/mentor

An exciting band 6 opportunity has arisen offering the chance to become part of our dynamic Elective Centre team.
Primarily based on the Burnley site you will be required to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service.
We are in the process of applying for surgical hub status, which operationally will mean extended theatre lists.
We currently provide care for a variety of adult specialities to include, General and vascular surgery, ENT, Max Fax, Orthopaedic, Urology and chronic pain.
We also house medical patients under going various investigations. The ward area also provides support during winter pressures, and patients can be stepped down here.
We currently open 24 hours Monday to Saturday and require senior cover to facilitate this. The Elective centre is a nurse led unit.
Weekend working is subject to capacity and demand.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Lead a team a team of nursing staff within this unit, to include trained nurses, health care support workers and student/ cadet nurses.
Provide nursing leadership and expertise and actively contribute to the delivery of high standards of individualised plans of nursing care.
Deputise in the absence of the Team manager.
Organise time, equipment and staff.
Demonstrate competency in nurse led discharge policy to include dispensing of medication.
Support patients, relatives and colleagues.

Essential criteria
- Surgical/ medical ward experience normally minimum of 18 months
- Registered Nurse – 1st Level Teaching/Assessing qualification
- Able to prioritise and plan workload Proven ability to plan and comply with detailed procedures Accurate record keeping
- Able to work the hours required by the need of the service. Able to adapt to the changing needs of the service
- Proven ability to work within a team and also, when required, be an effective team leader.
- Demonstrate a sympathetic /sensitive approach and to be able to speak effectively to colleagues, staff and patients
- Demonstrate ability to use own initiative and work without close supervision
- Able to deal with confidential information in the appropriate manner
- Able to adapt to the changing needs of the service

- Willingness to undertake future study for own professional development and service needs
