We are seeking a dedicated and motivated midwife to work alongside the SBL Lead Midwife to lead in the implementation of Element 4 of ‘Saving Babies Lives v2’ care bundle (SBLV2) and act as the fetal monitoring lead within the division.

The Fetal monitoring lead will monitor element four of the Saving Babies Lives care bundle, retaining oversight of all ongoing quality improvement projects and leading on the collation of appropriate evidence for the Clinical Negligence Scheme Trust (CNST) submission. 

The post holder will assume the role of fetal monitoring lead, improving standards of fetal heart monitoring, interpretation, escalation, education and appropriate management of care within the service in all settings. 

The post holder will be required to act as a role model demonstrating clinical leadership and midwifery expertise at all times: as a proportion of their working week, the post holder will be rostered to work within the intrapartum setting taking on a lead role during a clinical shift.

The Division is a Centre of Excellence for Women’s and Children’s services and has a credible and enviable reputation. We deliver over 6,000 babies and carry around 1500 gynaecological procedures each year, making us a specialist provider of health services for women, babies and their families in the North West Sector of Manchester and beyond. 

With births of around 6000 per year, Bolton is the ‘Supercentre’ for the northwest, providing high quality compassionate care to the women of Bolton, Bury, Salford and beyond.

Recent improvements have led to a stronger focus on providing safe and compassionate care and this has increased opportunities to learn, develop and expand your career.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Has comprehensive knowledge of current practice in Midwifery relating to CNST, fetal monitoring and Saving Babies Lives.
  • Ability to lead and undertake audits relevant to CNST, SBLV2 and fetal monitoring Utilise audit and research findings in order to improve care and clinical outcomes.
  • Demonstrate appropriate level of operational experience with regard to fetal monitoring/Up to date in speciality skills: fetal monitoring, advanced clinical skills
  • Knowledge of risk management and clinical governance and the relevance to practice; relevant policies and procedures; ethical issues
  • Experience of mentorship and ability to identify learning and development needs
  • Significant experience at Band 6 minimum and experience working on Delivery Suite/Intrapartum area
  • Ability to solve complex problems and establish priorities, work without supervision, manage the maternity unit, lead during acute obstetrics emergencies
