Job overview

Previous applicants need not apply.

We are looking for a qualified Clinical Endoscopist to join our team at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust in delivering high quality diagnostic & therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy.

The Trust has a purpose-built endoscopy unit with the latest high-definition endoscopes.  There are 10 consultant gastroenterologists at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and 4 clinical endoscopists who work in conjunction with our surgical colleagues to deliver high quality diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy.  The unit is JAG accredited and Bolton is a bowel cancer screening centre.

The post will be paid at band 8a if the successful candidate meets all the essential job requirements and at band 7 until those criteria are met.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time post.  There is flexibility in the job plan which may be negotiated between the successful candidate and the Trust.  The draft job plan includes four to five endoscopy lists per week, a telephone clinic session, validation of referrals and administrative time for patient management and correspondence.  The successful applicant should expect to work generally Monday to Friday,  approximately one in every six weekends and have flexible attitude to their start and finish times.

We are looking for a clinical endoscopist with a V300 non-medical prescribing qualification (from a nursing or other healthcare background) who is a registered health professional and a qualified, JAG accredited endoscopist.  The applicant should have substantial post registration experience and be able to demonstrate key performance indicators for upper and lower endoscopy in line with British Society of Gastroenterology standards.

Teaching and supervision of trainee endoscopists is an important part of the role.

Clinical endoscopists are expected to engage in clinical audit, service development and have a role in governance.
