Job overview
We are seeking a part time (30 hours) Therapy Practitioners over a 7 day period on a rota system. This permanent post will be based on the new Frailty SDEC on Community Assessment Unit, which is based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
NHS experience & Health & Social Care Level 3 is essential.
Main duties of the job
- To hold responsibility for a designated caseload within a defined area of the service, at times working without direct supervision from the Therapists contributing to a smooth running of the service.
- To be responsible for specific routine tasks, as delegated
- To participate as appropriate in reviews of and changes to service delivery within the team.
- To exercise good personal time management, punctuality and consistent and reliable attendance

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- To work alongside the multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, seamless, high quality care
- To supervise and deliver occupational therapy/physiotherapy treatment programmes within parameters set by qualified members of the team reporting back progress.
- To be responsible for the safe and competent use of appliances used by patients
- To assist qualified staff in the assessment and treatment process within agreed competency levels.
- To carry out specific interventions, within agreed competency levels.
- To evaluate patient progress and liaise with the multidisciplinary team as required
- To deliver pre-operative education to patients
- To instruct patients in the use of equipment and techniques to promote independence
- To communicate relevant information to team members, including participation in team meetings
- To be able to communicate effectively in a variety of ways with patients/carers to gain co-operation and understanding of treatment programmes.
- To maintain good working relationships
- To establish therapeutic relationships using negotiating and reasoning skills in order to complete treatment programmes
- To adhere to Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and carry out responsibilities accordingly
- To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs
- To attend regular meetings, e.g. staff meetings, support and development groups
- To participate in in-service training
- To maintain a portfolio of competencies showing evidence of lifelong learning
- To actively participate in PDR, appraisal and supervision systems
- To assist in induction and training of new staff and education of students
- To support Therapy Lead, as requested, in quality activities within the team
Responsibility for Information Resources
- To keep accurate and clear patient treatment records in line with Trust policies and standards
- To maintain timely statistics and other records, as requested by the Service
Responsibility for Health & Safety
Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 – the post holder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
Work Circumstances & on-call
Hours worked in line with local service delivery including weekends and Bank Holidays.

- Have an understanding of the specialist area
- Demonstrate understanding of therapy interventions and the role of the therapy practitioner
- A basic understanding of relevant medical conditions and appropriate therapeutic interventions
- Health and Safety Risk awareness

Essential criteria
- Willingness to work flexibly over a 7 day period to meet service needs
- Able to recognise and work within own personal limitations
- Speak English to appropriate standard
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Health & Social Care Level 3 or equivalent or able to demonstrate relevant experience
- Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio – including certificates from relevant courses or training
Experience
