Job overview

Our Central and West Lancashire Children’s Community Learning Disability Team are looking for an experienced Learning Disability Nurse or a Paediatric Nurse with experience of working with children with learning disabilities to join our team.

The team is hoping to recruit a nurse who is passionate about working with children with learning disabilities, adaptable, highly motivated, with excellent communication skills and with the ability to supervise and manage staff.  The Learning Disability Service strives to provide forward thinking high quality services, working in partnership with people with learning disabilities, their families and carers and other agencies.

Main duties of the job

 

The post holder will, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, work towards addressing the health, psychological, emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism.  They will be responsible for their caseload and supervise that of other practitioners within the service. 

The post holder will also take a senior role in undertaking and supporting assessments for the school aged Autism Spectrum Disorder Pathway.

The post is based within Lancashire.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Part 5 or 14 of NMC register 2- 3 years’ experience as registered nurse or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Preparation of Mentor training/NST 307 / ENB 998 Relevant post registration Qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel around the district Ability to support people who have a learning disability/complex needs on an individual and group basis Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and how to undertake assessment and support children and young people with ASD Knowledge of relevant contemporary health policy IT competence
Desirable criteria
  • Presentation Skills Knowledge and skills in the assessment / management of risk.
