Senior Family Therapist/ Systemic Psychotherapist

Band 8a Permanent contract 0.8 wte in East Lancashire locality (office base Nelson)  if you are interested in a full time position, there is the opportunity to create a full-time post by offering 1 day a week in Ormskirk EDS 

Applications are welcome from suitably qualified Family Therapists/ Systemic Psychotherapists who are registered with UKCP and possess the appropriate level of experience to meet the requirements of this senior role. However, we would also be happy to consider applications from recently qualified Family Therapists (with less than 2 years of experience) who may not yet meet the full competency requirements for this post. If appointed, such a candidate would be initially employed as a band 7 and be supported via a specific development plan over an agreed time frame to move towards band 8a.

You should be an excellent communicator and team player, with the successful applicant joining a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of professionals to provide assessment and treatment to children and adult service users and their families/carers. The team includes a range of other psychological professionals, nurses, dietitians and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Lead.

This post is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist skills within the field of eating disorders with the support of a highly experienced team, utilising your high level knowledge and skills within systemic practice to deliver high quality care. Existing experience in eating disorders across the age range is desirable but not essential, however, a keen interest to develop knowledge and skills in this field and a strong desire to help service users and families is vital. 

The successful candidate will benefit from regular clinical supervision as well as professional supervision, with encouragement to engage with CPD activities as appropriate.

As a specialist resource within LSCFT, you will also have a liaison/consultation role and provide some teaching/training across the wider service/network as required. You will be required to have completed specialist training in systemic supervision that has led to AFT ‘approved’ clinical supervisor status, to enable you to operate at a senior level within the service, or be prepared to commit to this training on appointment. You will be joining the service at an exciting time of development and will be able to help influence change going forward – we have recently recruited people to the new post of Systemic Practitioner to Intermediate Level and you will take a key role in supporting the development of this post.

The post will be primarily based in the East Lancashire locality team (Nelson) but will include 0.2 work in West Lancashire (based in Ormskirk) and will include work in the surrounding area. Some of the supervision and leadership responsibilities associated with this post may require you at times to travel to other EDS bases across Lancashire, as determined by the Clinical Lead. The post will cover 4 days (0.8 wte), essentially 9am-5pm on three weekdays, with some flexibility around evening group work as required. Alternative hours can be negotiated at interview if this would be preferred.

 

Please note: This post is subject to an enhanced DBS Clearance. As part of the pre-employment checks, successful candidates will be required to pay for their own DBS check at a cost of £44. Deductions will be taken from the first 3 months’ salary.

  • Professional qualification in a mental health or social welfare discipline or agreed Association of Family Therapy (AFT) equivalent.
  • Professional postgraduate qualification as a Systemic Psychotherapist or agreed Association of Family Therapy (AFT) equivalent.
  • Specialist training in supervision that has led to AFT ‘approved’ clinical supervisor status.

Knowledge

  • Skills in the use of methods of Systemic Psychotherapy/Family based assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • High level of relationship and communication skills to work with clients, families and/or professionals where the atmosphere might be both pressured and emotive.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to comprehend and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information in a manner appropriate to a range of settings and audiences, including complex emotive situations and those with impaired communication capacities.

Experience
