The Lancashire SAFE Centre has a newly created role in a centre coordinator and crisis worker to support the quality manager and centre manager to help run the daily activity of the centre and work towards achieving forensic science regulator (FSR) UKAS accreditation by October 2025.

The centre is a niche specialism that provides forensic examination to those patients who have sadly experienced sexual assault and/or rape. The service provides cover 24/7 365 days a week via on call crisis workers and sexual offence examiners to the population of Lancashire and South Cumbria. 

We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and driven individual to join us to work alongside the centre manager, quality manager, matron and clinical director as well as liaising with Lancashire Constabulary, Victim Services, safeguarding, the police and crime commissioner and NHS England to deliver this high-quality service.

You will be reporting to the SAFE Centre Manager. The SAFE Centre Co-Ordinator and Crisis Worker will be responsible for assisting the Centre Manager in the day to day running of the SAFE Centre.

Note: As part of the requirement for this role, you must be willing to submit a DNA sample for storage on the staff elimination database for purposes of exclusion from investigation only

Reporting to the SAFE Centre Manager, the coordinator will be required to train to hold the role of crisis worker, supporting any cases during the core hours of the service where there may be rota gaps and non-recent cases.

The co-ordinator will work alongside a forensic examiner and run the monthly paediatric GUM clinic and all associated GUM administration work. In addition, undertake all of the welfare calls offered to all patients who attend the SAFE Centre as a follow up within 2 weeks of attendance, ensuring that the patients wellbeing is at the heart of the call.

The coordinator will assist the Centre Manager and Practice Development in the recruitment and training of crisis workers, providing ongoing CPD development and portfolios of evidence.

The coordinator will also assist the work of the centre Quality manager in achieving and maintaining the UKAS accreditation.

There is a potential to be required to work until 7pm (approximately 1-2 per week) at some points in order to support the daytime crisis worker rota. This will be discussed in more depth at interview.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide telephone support and information to other professionals, patients, and patients’ families.

To offer limited telephone support to callers requiring assistance surrounding sexual assault, adhering to Centre and Trust policies and procedures.

To support the running of the monthly paediatric GUM clinic and prepare all administration for this.

Assist the quality manager with the preparation of UKAS accreditation and yearly maintenance of the standards to ensure accreditation is maintained.

Assist the centre manager and the quality manager in setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards in the SAFE Centre

To support the service to maintain a quality management system and roll out core training for all staff on how to use it.

To support the outreach and practice development lead in the recruitment and specialist training of crisis workers and supporting the promotion of the work of the SAFE Centre. 

Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within the role.

Communicates all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team, both internally and external organisations as required.

Ensures environment safe, well equipped, and compliant with standards for UKAS accreditation.

Maintain accurate and complete records of all care activities, in a timely manner, adhering to local and professional standards for documentation.

Support the crisis worker rota in hours.

Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting, and meeting the needs and choices of individuals accessing the SAFE Centre

Ensure rota is maintained and distributed to the relevant organisations

  • Awareness of the Forensic Regulator guidelines and how they fit into SARCs
