Job overview

The post holder will be expected to efficiently assist with the daily running of dental treatment services, this will include all aspects of booking appointments, dealing with telephone and counter enquiries from the public, other health care professionals and other dentists. The post holder will undertake various clerical duties including providing clerical assistance to clinicians and senior staff.

Th post holder must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well within a team. You will mainly work at your base clinic; however you will also be required to work across the Lancashire and South Cumbria Dental Service, to efficiently assist with the daily running of Dental services.

Experience is not required as full training will be given.

Main duties of the job

  • Possessing the ability to diffuse conflicts / confrontations / stressful situations and be familiar with and adhere to the Trusts complaints procedure.
  • Greeting  patients/parents on arrival for appointments in a professional manner
  • Accurately recording and reporting all telephone messages for all members of staff.
  • Processing and administering face-to-face, written and telephone enquiries, both internal and from the public; clinical and non-clinical.
  • Responsible for recording all details on Dentally. 
  • Responsible for providing information and advice about dental services and access to NHS dental care to members of the public.
  • Communicating with Dental Laboratories, regarding prosthetic, orthodontic and restorative work. This includes booking in / out lab work using appropriate administration system as required.
  • Obtaining sensitive personal, social and medical information, often of a complex nature; and in situations where interpreters may be necessary or where patients have learning and communication difficulties, cannot read/write or have visual/auditory impairment.
  • Organising translation services and co-ordinating with other health care professionals, and social care agencies, if required, as it will be necessary to explain information in everyday language and terms so that interpreters can translate for patients.
  • Requesting clinical information from GP surgeries and other Trusts as required by the dentist
