Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist - Acute Assessment and Frailty

Band 7

Job overview

Do you want to work at the forefront of acute hospital care leading a new and innovative team? Are you experienced in delivering high quality acute patient care within a busy, fast-paced environment? Is frailty your thing? If so then you are the person we’re looking for!

Our Acute Assessment and Frailty Therapy team are looking for a Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to support the implementation of a new and exciting way of working at the trust. You will use your excellent organisation, prioritisation and delegation skills to support the delivery of therapy assessments and intervention across the emergency department and assessment areas across the trust.

We believe the best thing for our patients is to receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time and therefore our focus is to avoid unnecessary admission to hospital in a safe and caring way. To achieve this you will rely upon your advanced therapeutic assessment and intervention skills, problem-solving skills and effective risk management to achieve positive results for patients.

Main duties of the job

You will provide leadership to the Acute Assessment and Frailty Therapy team alongside the other Clinical Leads, supporting each other to provide integrated, responsive and effective care across all the service areas.

This position will require you to be able to manage both a complex clinical caseload and the leadership and management of the team, therefore it will be important to be organised and to be able to work effectively under pressure.

Your positive approach to collaboration and communication will enhance your working relationships and interactions with team members across the acute and community pathways. Your open and empathetic communication style will also positively impact on patients who may be in a moment of crisis looking to you for help.

Using your advanced clinical assessment skills you will be able to make timely decisions regarding patient care and discharge planning as well as supporting others within the team to do the same.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients.  Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done.  You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

No two days will be the same within this team, covering ever changing assessment areas you’ll always be on the go!  Alongside your team you will need to identify patients appropriate for therapy input, complete the assessment, treatment and discharge planning of a variety of patients and liaise with community teams to ensure patients are able to leave hospital in the safest way. You will also need to manage the day to day running of the team alongside the clinical lead physiotherapist as well as providing evidence and audits as to the effectiveness of this new team.

We’re looking for someone who is dedicated to service improvement who can lead from the front and can inspire others to engage in change. Your enthusiasm for service development and improvement will be infectious and allow yourself, the team and the service to reach its full potential.

You’ll have the opportunity to attend and lead in-service training both within the team and as part of Core Therapies such as the cognitive and perceptual training led by our Occupational Therapy team. You will also lead on regular team meetings for your speciality allowing the team to share ideas, information and learning as well as having the opportunity to just get together and catch up.

There is also band 7 Occupational Therapy forum and a Clinical Leads forum that meet regularly providing a space for discussion with your peers as well as strategic updates and workforce developments.

Duties to include but not limited to:

  • To communicate and collaborate with all Core Therapies stakeholders
  • To support personal and people development
  • To help to ensure the health, safety and security of users of the core therapies service, self and colleagues
