You need to be CCAB or CIMA qualified with a strong background in Financial Management. We're seeking a forward-thinking, proactive individual who can lead their team in supporting the strategic direction of the Finance Directorate and the Trust. 

As a Senior Financial Advisor, you'll have the opportunity to unleash your personal and professional skills, contributing to the continuous improvement of our finance services. Your role is instrumental in supporting the Trust's strategic goals, making a positive difference in healthcare.

 

Main duties of the job

Your primary objective is to investigate & advise on highly complex business management issues to improve financial awareness, performance, and to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity and business focus of the Trust.

To be the finance lead for the cross cutting work streams identified in the Model Hospital/Model Health Systems data. To support the Trust with the effective use of external / internal benchmarking data to drive efficiencies.To ensure that all statutory/NHS accounts & returns represent a true and fair view and meet financial timescales and legal requirements, interpreting these where necessary.

Investigate and advise on highly complex business management issues. Your insights will be crucial in enhancing financial awareness, improving performance, and maintaining the integrity and business focus.

Strive for continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance financial performance. Your role is pivotal in driving efficiency and effectiveness in financial operations.

Leverage your financial acumen and business savvy to unravel intricate financial challenges and provide strategic solutions.

  • 🤝 Relationship Building: To actively develop internal relationships and work with the Continuous Improvement, Finance & Procurement Teams and key stakeholders, ensuring full clinical and non-clinical engagement

    📊 Financial Management: Take the lead for the Department in advising and recommending alternative courses of action to improve financial performance. Ensure the financial advisory service is efficient and effective.

    💡 Strategic Advisory: Produce realistic forecasts for FRP in conjunction and agreement with the Divisional Finance Leads/Service Leads. Provide information to the division to ensure corrective actions are agreed for any deviations from plan.

    👩‍💼 Team Leadership: Provide overall management and supervision to the Divisional Financial Management Team, fostering an efficient and timely service. Support staff development and contribute to the broader goals of the Trust.

    📈 Performance Reporting: Deliver complex reports on financial performance for the division to the Assistant Finance Director and Executive Team, ensuring timely and accurate information.

Essential criteria
  • CCAB or CIMA full member
  • Participation in the Continuing Professional Development Programme.

  • Leadership qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in an NHS Finance environment and/or extensive post qualification financial management experience.
  • Expert knowledge of costing and pricing methodologies
  • Expert knowledge of Financial and Accounting Procedures
  • Proven track record in a staff management and leadership role
  • Experience of working with Directors ,senior and operational managers and clinicians, evidence of effective challenge
  • Extensive experience of working with others to ensure direction and policies are attainable within available resources
Desirable criteria
  • Acute Sector experience
  • Knowledge of NHS Strategy and Policy
  • Experience in complex organisational change projects
  • Experience in use of virtual technologies to conduct meetings, deliver interventions and deliver training/information sessions.

  • Able to negotiate with NHS/external organisations over cost/service issues
  • Ability to act as line manager for a discrete work area within finance

  • Proactive with excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to confidently interrogate electronic ledger and costing systems.
  • Proven ability in use of spreadsheet packages including ability to design and modify spreadsheet models
  • Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities, formulate and adjust plans or strategies
  • Able to use appropriate methods for gathering, analysing, interpreting and presenting information on a range of highly complex problems where there may be no precedent or where opinions may conflict
  • Strong leadership qualities, experience in encouraging and achieving development of both staff and yourself.
  • Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods within a busy office environment and to switch tasks to respond to priorities
  • Ability to digest, interpret and present the implications of national guidance.
