Main duties of the job

Join the dynamic Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT) and be at the forefront of delivering a stellar clinical service to the Trust! As a vital member, you'll provide specialized nursing expertise in identifying, preventing, monitoring, and controlling infections.

Your role extends to being a knowledgeable resource, facilitating infection control, and actively revising Trust policies. You will balance diverse work demands, and contribute to the formulation of teaching strategies. Your passion for logical and structured reporting will shine as you assist in developing audit tools for targeted surveillance.

Whilst Infection Control generally cover Monday to Friday, there will be some expectation to also cover some weekend hours and bank holidays. The ICP team covers a number of sites which include Renal Satellite Units, Community Healthcare Hub, and Derian House Children's Hospice

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Participate in delivering an effective clinical service to the Trust as part of the Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT) including providing specialist nursing input within the Infection Prevention & Team in the identification, prevention, monitoring and control of infection within the Trust
  • Provide clinical knowledge, skills and experience in Infection Prevention & Control, acting as a resource and facilitator as required.
  • To revise and develop Trust policies/protocols relating to infection Prevention & Control.
  • Participate in ensuring results from the laboratory are actioned daily.
  • To prioritise own workload taking into account varying demands and resource
  • To assist in the formulation and implementation teaching and learning strategies for different groups of clinical and non-clinical staff.
  • To produce logical, structured written reports of Post Infection Reviews.
  • To assist in the identification and development of suitable audit tools as necessary for the targeted surveillance of hospital-acquired infections, as required.
  • To critically evaluate information and research to formulate advice on the prevention and control of infection.

Person specification

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered professional with NMC
  • Teaching Qualification e.g. City and Guilds 7307, ENB 998 or other relevant teaching qualification, mentorship
  • Degree level of education or on a degree pathway
  • Evidence of consistent professional and education development at an advanced level.
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant specialist qualification in Infection Prevention and Control e.g. ENB 329, Diploma/degree in Infection Prevention and Control / microbiology
  • Core people management skills, LEO or equivalent.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date clinical credibility / competence
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
  • Experience of embedding change
  • Experience of establishing partnerships in health care with multi -professional groups and patients and carers
  • Current consolidated experience in infection prevention & control
  • Experience of teaching
  • Evidence of research based practice
  • Evidence of changing practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience / Knowledge within Infection Prevention & Control at ward level / IPC Link nurse
