β¨ Experienced midwives will receive a comprehensive orientation to our service before joining our Band 6 rotation, while newly qualified midwives will be welcomed into our Band 5 preceptorship programme. Upon successful completion, you'll progress onto the Band 6 rotation, where you'll continue to grow and thrive in your career.

Main duties of the job

You'll collaborate closely with our specialist teams, including the:

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As part of our team, your duties will include, but not be limited to:

π Assisting and supporting the lead midwife in the safe and effective management of the area, including personnel, facilities, and associated systems.
π₯ Serving as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team, and the organization.
π€ Coordinating and delivering care through appropriate professional practice, delegation, and supervision.
π©Ί Ensuring a high standard of midwifery care is delivered based on assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with local and national standards and evidence-based guidelines.
π Setting, monitoring, and maintaining standards of care to enhance patient experience and outcomes.
β οΈ Proactively managing risk and maintaining patient safety in accordance with health, safety, and security legislation and guidelines.
π’ Communicating relevant information to the multidisciplinary team and external organizations to ensure seamless care.
π Promoting education and health promotion while advocating for equality in care and practice.
π₯ Ensuring the care environment is safe, well-equipped, and compliant with hygiene and cleanliness standards.

Qualifications & Education
Essential criteria
- Appropriate NMC Registration
- NMC recognised Mentorship qualification or willingness to work towards, following 18 months commencement in post
- Evidence of continuing education or development since qualifying
- Up-to-date with all essential training and appraisal
Desirable criteria
- Leadership course
- Management course
- NIPE qualification or willingness to work towards
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate fulfillment of Band 5 preceptorship and progression to Band 6
- Awareness of changes within Midwifery practice
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of coordinating a team
- Able to manage obstetric emergencies in all settings.
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
- Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
- Maintains own reflective practice
- Demonstrates effective listening skills and communication skills.
- Confident in teaching and assessing student midwives, midwives, and doctors.
- Able to conduct relationships in such a way that conflict is minimalised
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of ethical issues
- Basic understanding of financial management.
- Evidence of innovation in practice.
- Knowledge of research and development.
- Knowledge of quality improvement.
- Has been involved in audits.
