Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speciality Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology post (ST6 or above level) within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialty at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is a 6-month fixed term contract. 

 

Lancashire Teaching Hospital is a large teaching hospital closely linked with the University of Manchester. The successful candidate will contribute to the on-call rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post is ideal for candidates who wish to gain experience and training in the specialty, who are considering or working towards the portfolio pathway (formerly CESR) to specialist registration.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role include:

-     -  Working within the delivery suite to provide input to the routine and the emergency workload at second on-call level. You will be expected to have adequate experience to enable you to work competently at the ST6+ level.

-      - Undertake elective Caesarean Sections.

-      - To work within the Ante-natal clinics, Maternity Triage as well as maternity, antenatal and postnatal wards.

-      - To assist in the provision of an Emergency Gynaecology Service as a second on-call level.

-      - To work within the Gynaecology clinics and wards.  To assist Gynaecological surgery

-      - On-call duties are on a 1: 9 full shift system.

LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The Trust has approximately 4,700 births annually and a level three neonatal unit.

We are privileged to work closely with a nationally recognised, award winning team of midwives dedicated to improving the birth experience for all women. We offer all four choices for place of birth. There are midwifery led birth units at both Royal Preston Hospital and at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital and a 12 bedded central delivery unit in Royal Preston Hospital. 

Lancashire Teaching Hospital will be one of three centres in the Northwest which have been accredited as a hub of the maternal medicine network. 

In Gynaecology we provide services in benign Gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory, menopause, paediatric, endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy.

 We also provide tertiary gynecological oncology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria with a specialist team of gynaecology oncologists.

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • Medical Degree
  • MRCOG part 1
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree eg MD
  • ATSM or equivalent in Labour Ward practice
  • ATSM or equivalent in special interest
  • MRCOG part 2& 3
  • Educational qualification eg diploma in education.

Experience and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Wide general experience of obstetrics and gynaecology to equivalent of ST5
  • Gynaecological surgical skills including outpatient and ambulatory procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate
  • Advanced obstetric skills to level of ST7
