Lancashire Hospitals Services (Pharmacy) Ltd is delighted to be able to offer a vacancy for a Pharmacy Technician to come and join our fantastic team.  The role is varied with opportunities to work in all three of our branches covering a range of tasks.

If you  have never worked in a hospital setting before, please do not be discouraged from applying as full training will be provided.  The team are friendly, helpful and by all working together, we deliver a service that we are proud of.

Please note full time hours are 36 hours per week worked over four days.  

You will need to be enthusiastic, motivated and demonstrate a desire towards developing our services.

Main duties of the job

On a day to day basis, your duties will vary and help provide a high quality service to our patients whether this be provided customer service, dispensing/checking medicines or ordering and receiving pharmacy stock. 

You will also  develop positive working relationships with our fantastic colleagues and multidisciplinary team and be a valued member of the company.

Lancashire Hospitals Services (Pharmacy) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. We provide the NHS Trust with the outpatient dispensing service at Royal Preston Hospital, Rosemere Centre (within Royal Preston Hospital) and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  •  Contribute to the delivery of a safe and effective pharmacy service
  • Use EMIS pharmacy stock control and patient medication record system
  • Manage stock appropriately and contribute to stock management
  • Accurately dispense prescriptions whilst minimising patient waiting times
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Ensure the safe and accurate issue of prescriptions
  • Act as an accuracy checker
  • Purchase, receive and store medicines
  • Assist in dispensing and planning prescription deliveries
  • Work effectively as part of the team to meet company targets
  • Offer suggestions to improve working processes
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, health professionals and patients
  • Participate in quality and/or clinical audit projects
  • Contribute to the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures
  • Provide cover for other Pharmacy Technicians, across sites, as appropriate
  • Promote and maintain strong working and customer relationships with key stakeholders
  • Maintain professional standards
  • Observe confidentiality requirements
  • Support the implementation of local and national medicines-related guidance
  • Supervise the routine work of other staff and assist in activity/workload planning
  • Provide leadership and act as a role model
  • Carry out CPD and maintain GPhC Registration
  • Train, coach and mentor new and existing members of the team
  • Work within the Company’s business and strategic plans

 

Person specification

Qualifications and Education

Essential criteria
  • 2 GCSE Passes Grade C or above (or equivalent) must include Maths and English
  • Recognised Pharmacy Technician Qualification meeting requirements for registration with the GPhC
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Knowledge of stock control systems
  • Good telephone/ communication skills
  • Computer literate including good keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of Health & safety
  • Knowledge of drug therapies
  • Knowledge of medicines legislation and clinical governance.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in s hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of working in an outpatient pharmacy
  • Experience of EMIS
