 We looking for a band 6 dietitian to work in our community team with emphasis on nutritional support with an interest in gastroenterology .

As a Trust, we recommend that individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

You would provide dietary therapy  to a range of patients who require nutritional support , in particular with gastroenterology conditions. There would also be patients with a variety of long term conditions including respiratory , neurological and those with cognitive issues. Using established links you will provide education to NHS staff and paid carers on nutritional support especially focusing on food first strategies

You will be working face to face with patients in clinic and domiciliary settings as well as via phone and video calls

 There are strong links to the hospital nutrition  support team dietitians for support and supervision and home enteral feeding dietitians for patients with complex feeding needs conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Purpose

  • To play an active role along with other dietetic colleagues in the provision of evidence based nutrition and behaviour change theory within the Community Dietetic Team within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other contracted users of the service.
  • To provide an evidence based service along with other band 7 and band 6 Dietitians to the using knowledge, skills and experience as an independent practitioner.

Working relationships 

  • Provides specialist advice to patients, carers, community services e.g. GPs, community organisations, nurses. AHPS and other dietitians.  
  • To work with dietetic colleagues to share knowledge and develop nutritional standards, protocols, and guidelines within weight management which can be implemented Trust-wide.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics / post graduate diploma or equivalent
  • Registration with the HPC
  • Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA)
  • Accredited clinical supervisory skills training for student training/ communication skill training/ counselling skills training
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Diploma in Dietetics Completion of relevant post-registration clinical course(s)
  • Member of relevant specialist interest groups
  • Attendance at specialist group meetings/webinars of BDA or relevant organisations
  • Attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Skilled in the development of nutritional care plans
  • Specialist knowledge and experience relevant to clinical area
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience with student training including supervision
  • Experience of teaching and Training others – patients or HCP
  • Awareness of research methods and audit skills to inform/ evaluate practice and support change
  • Knowledge and appreciation of clinical governance issues
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with community dietetics
  • Experience with nutritional support
