Working within a small friendly team, our Anaesthetic rota co-ordinator is an important member of our team. organising medical rotas to the highest standard, ensuring the  optimum levels of clinical cover over the three hospitals, Wigan, Leigh & Wrightington. 

Main duties of the job

The Anaesthetic Rota Co-ordinator will be responsible for achieving a high standard of anaesthetic cover by the efficient deployment / maximisation of the anaesthetic resource within the Division, by the concise allocation of duties or all Anaesthetic Consultants, middle grade and junior doctors.

The post holder is responsible for keeping accurate attendance records, noting annual leave, study leave and sickness.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post-holder will demonstrate an ability to work both supervised and unsupervised and be responsible for:

  •   Understanding substantive medical posts within the Division and the Divisions service needs
  •   Act as first point of contact for all rota communications in the Department and to deal with such communications accordingly and promptly.
  •   To understand the complexity of the European Working time Directive (EWTD)
  •   Co-ordinate and approve annual leave / study leave / leave of absence for Anaesthetists in the Division
  •   Input all leave of absences to the CLW online rota, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  •   To support the monitoring of medical staff sickness absence within the Division and ensure the Office Manager is aware of sickness.
  •   Prepare detailed rotas to ensure theatres on all three sites are covered and on call rota’s are covered.
  •   Allocate duties to medical staff, considering any specific training needs of the post holders.
  •   Identify service gaps and plan/initiate cover wither internal or locum, in a timely manner to meet service needs.
  •   Compile/produce draft and published rotas for all levels of medical staff ensuring adequate levels are maintained. Distribute duty rotas in a timely manner to facilitate service requirements.
  •   To have a good working knowledge and understand Lead Employer medical staff contracts, including LTFT & input all types of leave and sickness on the Lead Employer portal ESR system.
  •   Arrange locums via the NHSP framework/system.

Essential

Essential criteria
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent
  • Proven competance in Microsoft office inc Outlook
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE in English at grade c and above

Experience

  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Understanding the importance of NHS issues
  • Experience of a busy working environent
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Electronic NHS systems
